I am a co Maid/Matron of Honor and am trying to organize a bridal shower in the austin area for about 15-20 ladies. Also, 85% of the guests would be coming from out of town (including me, the other Maid/Matron of Honor, and the bride), and those other 15% (including the MOB) live a solid hour away from downtown. We agreed on Austin because that is the most central location for everyone to travel to, and is also where the bride is getting married (in mid May). Has anyone here had to plan a bridal shower from afar and have any tips on how to keep the cost low?
The bride would like to have a “Tea Party” theme and I’d LOVE to have it at a private residence, but unfortunately the closest house to the area (and large airport) is over an hour away (Belton, TX). Has anyone been to any Tea Rooms in Austin that they would recommend for a bigger sized group? Or any other locations that would allow us to be creative about decor and theme?
Thank you for any advice and/or suggestions!!

Not sure about tea rooms, but the Driskill 1886 Cafe would be a lovely place, if they do private parties.

I second the Driskill. It’s beautiful. Also, my friend had a tea party for her daughter at her house and used this company http://www.marveloustea.com/1.0/phone/about.html
I wasn’t able to attend but it sounded really amazing. Maybe try contacting them?

If you want to avoid the expense of a venue, you could rent a place through AirBnB, stay there overnight yourself (maybe include the other Maid/Matron of Honor and the bride) so you are not duplicating accommodation expenses, and host the tea party there. You can have the shower catered, or do it yourself picking up sweets and savouries at a local bakery.

Thank you for the advice! Some of us needed an AirBnB anyway, so that would be super convenient to find one that could accomodate our size! Thanks for the tip!

I’m a pro at Airbnb so I thought I’d do a quick search for you. These two places really stood out to me: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/698082?checkin=06%2F09%2F2017&checkout=06%2F11%2F2017&guests=4&adults=4&children=0&infants=0&s=K6VjaYMs / https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/5262010?checkin=06%2F09%2F2017&checkout=06%2F11%2F2017&guests=4&adults=4&children=0&infants=0&s=K6VjaYMs
I just want to warn you: a lot of Airbnbs don’t allow parties, but I think many would be amenable if you mention it’s a calm, composed bridal shower for just 15 people. There might be an extra fee.
