If he’s already done work for you, you’ll need to pay him for his time before you "fire" him. Then you should be fine telling him you’re going another way, unless you have a contract that promises a certain $$. As far as the friend goes, just tell her that "while you loved her invites, y’all didn’t mesh as well and you’ve decided to go another way"

Just so you know…

Wedding Paper Divas prints their logo on the back of invitations. I ordered our engagement party invitations from them and they’re beautiful, affordable, and chic – but there’s this logo on the back of every single one. If it doesn’t bother you, cool, but I know it bothered me, especially as I hadn’t agreed to that during the design process.

@Cheerful…that’s pretty common on mass-produced stuff. Almost every single invite I’ve ever gotten, unless it was custom, has the company name on it. I just went and checked the 4 on my fridge and they all say who they were made by.

I’ll chime in since I design wedding invitations and accompaniments for a living.  Organize your thoughts and concerns and send him a straight forward email or discuss it over the phone (or in person).  Give him a chance to "make it right" for you.  Then, if he doesn’t respond quickly and completely, fire him and move on.  That’s business!  Of course, you’ll have to check your contract if you’ve signed one with him.  But, the bottom line is he works for you.

As a designer, I work very hard to meet my client’s preferences on every detail.  It does require constant communication between us however.  I think being honest in a straight-forward and polite manner is the best policy.

Good luck to you!  If you find you need a new designer, let me know!

The same thing happened to me!! Basically even after spelling everything out to her she just still didn’t do what I wanted on my invites. My mom hates them and thinks they are horribly ugly, and she found some really cute ones on wedding paper divas.  This probably sounds so wrong but I just said ok send me the designs I am printing them myself which she is fine with then I’m going to pay her for the design but just never get the invites printed and just get the ones from wpaper divas.  I tried firing her and she didn’t get the message so this was the best way to go about it.

Hope that helps!

@cheerful – my future sister in law ordered her wedding invitations a couple months ago and there wasn’t a logo on the back at all…..

@madalynn17 – Maybe for the wedding invitations they don’t print the logo? I’m glad for your Future Sister-In-Law. I really like WeddingPaperDivas’ designs, but I was really surprised when I found the logo on the back of our engagement party invitations!

I won’t let friends get involved in helping me out with my wedding because I’ve heard all too many stories about people "trying" to help you out, only to have things go sour.  I got my invites through Costco.com.  They turned out beautifully and were affordable.  Good luck in finding something.
