I have this problem but have made it manageable with a few tricks. I’d recommend a pill crusher (then put it in applesauce) or just break the pills into smaller pieces with a paring knife. It also helps to try to swallow the pill with a thicker drink like OJ with lots of pulp or a smoothie or something like that. Also try to take it mid-meal or right after a bite of something crunchy like a chip, for example. It ever-so-slightly tricks your brain into swallowing things more easily.

Also, if you need to supplement with iron and want one less pill to take, you can try liquid iron (Floradix is a good one).

Good luck!

The gummies are fine. A trick I used when I was a teen to lesrn to swallow pills is that I would go ahead and put a little water in my mouth before putting the pill in. Then I would open my mouth and toss the pill in as I swallowed the water. Much easier than putting a pill in first for me for some reason.

I take vitafusion gummies, which my gyno Suggested since the prescription prenatals made me feel horrible. They don’t have iron so you’ll have to supplement if needed.

The iron is what makes people sick. I would get your levels checked and only supplement with it if you’re low.

Until getting pregnant I took a gummy and also ate Total cereal pretty regularly (it’s fortified with a bunch of vitamins). Once pregnant I tried to switch to a pill with iron but it was making me sicker than just the morning sickness. There are prescription chewables with iron that your ob/gyn can prescribe! For whatever reason I’ve tolerated the chewables much better.

I have the same problem with pills – I have never been able to swallow them unless it is something tiny like a sudafed…years ago, I started taking pills with natural applesauce (not all the sugar) and now, I can take almost any pill in applesauce (I still can’t take with just water)…I take a spoonful of applesauce, plop the pill in the middle and swallow…start off with small pills and work your way up…it won’t take long!

EarlyBird :  Target has prenatal gummy vitamins.  I take them as a supplement even though I’m not pregnant as regular vitamins give me nausea.
