@nilamin:  Don’t pick! Keep it hydrated! Use scar cream (Mederma!) and don’t pick! Don’t pick!!!

Depending on how bad it is, I would go to urgent care so that they can give you prescription strength burn cream. It is MAGIC. I burned my entire left forearm by dropping boiling food on myself and the ER doc said it was a third degree burn. I don’t think it was THAT bad but it was pretty awful. I freaked out about it because I thought it would be scarred forever but it’s not! Paying the ER co pay was totally worth it.

@nilamin:  No matter what product you use, you’re going to find mixed reviews. It’s impossible to please everyone. As long as you’re keeping it hydrated and not picking at it, you will minimize the risk of scarring.

This is the day after my burn. After that it got way darker, bubbled up, then peeled for a long time. So nasty. This is just to give you an idea of the size. The initial burn was from my wrist up to my elbow, but that part there was the bad part. I’ll post a picture of what my arm looks like today. Sorry for the multiple posts, I’m on my phone!

This is my arm now, 18 months after the burn, but I would say that it only took about 6 weeks for it to almost completely go away. I was prescribed Silvadene and it was amazing.

aloe vera. i prefer to use it straight from the plant, but the stuff from a tube works just as well. i don’t know if it helps minimize scarring, but it definitely helps it heal.

Aloe Vera, Mederma or ask your doctor if you can get a prescription for Silvadene! 🙂
