I went dress shopping over about a week in May. I tried on about 30 gowns, and finally put one on that felt magical–it felt like it was made for me. I didn’t buy it though, I went home and slept on it. And told my co-worker about it the next way. And couldn’t stop thinking about it. So I went back to the store, tried on a few more dresses, and then tried “it” on again—and I was in love. I paid the deposit and ordered my size. And then I waited.
And then I watched about 100 episodes of Say Yes To The Dress, perused through hundreds of dress ads in bridal mags…and then about a month ago I realized I no longer liked my dress. I went back to the store and told them that. But, they had my non-refundable deposit.
So I got a call last week saying my dress was in. I was nervous, but I wanted to try it on, hoping I would fall in love with it again. But when I tried it on, I felt blah. I half expected to shriek with delight. But instead I was just going through the motions, trying on different sizes of crinoline, and walking around. On the advice of the saleslady, and having already put 1/2 down, I paid the balance and left with the dress, thinking if I could sell it for more than the deposit, I wouldn’t be out as much money as if I walked out without it.
I got home and told my fiance what happened. At first he seemed pissed, but he asked me to try it on for him–even though he really didn’t want to see me in my wedding dress. I tried it on, and of course he said it was beautiful, but I actually burst into tears!
So now I’m stuck. What should I do? I put it up for sale here, on Project Wedding, and on Craigslist, but no bites. I don’t want to lose too much money here.
Do I suck it up and wear it for my wedding? After all, it’s just fabric, and I’ll only have it on for a short while. And the budget is tight, and we’re already in debt because of the wedding.
Or do I keep it or continue to try and sell it at a too-low price, and go find the dress of my dreams, which will likely be twice as much as I paid for my current dress?
Advice please! 🙂
