Have you tried putting in extensions until it grows out? I never had them, but my girlfriends swear by them. The only thing is that I hear they are a bit pricey.

I had to go through that!  I had a pixie after my dreadlocks (long story!) and it did the same thing as it grew out.  I handled it like this: I would just trim the back when I felt too awkward about it.  It is an inevitable phase, just be confident and don’t worry.  A wise friend once said, “it is hair!  It comes, it goes, it grows.”

@cbee: Yup, that’s always my solution too when my hair grows out. Just keep trimming the back until things even out.

I just wet mine and snip away at it myself, but if you trust any of your friends with a pair of scissors, it would be pretty easy for them to shorten and taper the back.

I had a pixie cut that I grew out to an a-line cut!  That phase sucks!  I hated it!  I just had to cut the back of my hair often while not cutting the front.  I used a lot of bobby pins, cut clips, head bands… and eventually i just gave up and accepted awkward hair.  Luckily the phase didn’t last too long… Good luck!

I think in the interim, you could just brush and pin the hair in the front back.

I shaved my head once and the grow out is terrible- my hair was horrific. You just have to grin and bear it!  Let it grow.

the cut you have is very much in style with the hipsters here. I think it’s very cute!

but I understand if you don’t like it. I think all it would take is to remove a couple of  inches from the back at the bottom, but keep it wispy and textured.

also, you look adorable in that pixie cut photo! (the one where you’re wearing a feather)

I like your a-line too, but if you decide to eventually grow it out to that, my suggestion is to not have it so long in the front.  I love a-lines (have one myself) but IMO I think they look best when the angle isn’t too severe. I’d suggest it follow the angle of your jawline. but that’s just my opinion 🙂

oh also– I know this is kind of a dated reference, but your hair reminds me of winona ryder when she was in Reality Bites.  I always adored her look!

was in that boat about a year ago… my only advice is to get some cute headbands and keep on growing, trim it up a little bit if you feel super self conscious, otherwise you just have to know that it is going to grow eventually.

I think flicking the ends outwards with a little styling wax and hair dryer would be a super cute way to have your hair until it grows more, also very feminine.
