best thing to do is go and try one on with the dress and see which you prefer in the mirror.

Have you had the dress tailored yet? A lot of times seamstresses will have some, or you could try on a similar style in your area with and without a pettycoat.  Worse comes to worse, buy one, they are not that expensive and you can decide when you and your dress are reunited.

I have tried on dresses with hoops under them and it is sooo much more comfortable that way. They keep the dress off your legs and it’s way easier to walk in.

You can use a small a-line petticoat, but I would not use a hoop or anything too full…your dress looks like it already has some volume.
