I would go try on some similar dresses to this (maybe print out this pic) and if the styles look fabulous and you can’t find it – then you’ll be safe to order it somewhere. I’d even try David’s Bridal because they have the greatest range in sample sizes. I’m a street size 16 and I could only try on a few samples at regular bridal salons. I didn’t get my dress at DB, but its good to actually try on different styles.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi there! I think I might have seen a similiar dress somewhere. You should definetly try The White Gown in brooklyn. I ordered my dress there and they have a number of plus size dresses to try :). Let us know how it worked out!

It wouldn’t hurt to go to DB and just try on different styles to see what looks good on you.  I was dead set on a mermaid style gown and HATED it when I tried it on.  You don’t have to get your dress there, but since there are a lot of samples, you could get an idea for what looks good.

I’ve heard the one in Queens is better than the Manhattan one.

I live in a small town and know that plus size gowns are available at the small town bridal shops to try on…  I wouldn’t go to DB.  They will completely stress you out and make you think that nothing else is available.  I’m sure that you can find plenty of places to try out gowns in NYC beyond DB.

I went to DB and purchased my dress there.  At the time, it was a plus size.  They were actually super nice to me, much nicer than any of the other true bridal salons.  They were not pushy at all and were very patient with me.  The other salons I went to actually made me feel fat.  There is something about a size 2 sales clerk using what looks like jumper cables to hold up a size 6 dress on your ovbiously not-a-size-6 body to make you want to cry.  But that was just the experience for me.  I have heard a lot of women that did not have a great experience at DB.

I’m a plus-sized bride as well and live in NYC. I went to DB but I hated all the dresses, the material and nothing fit me great.  No offense to other DB Brides but that just wasn’t my style and the people there made ME feel huge and very unhappy.

Right after, I went to RK Bridal and I found several dresses I loved! I just ordered one. They have a pretty good plus-size section at any style you want. I ordered a mermaid style one because that fit my body best. It’s on 39st between 8th & 9th I think. Google them. At least you’ll get the chance to try something on! Glinda helped and she was an awesome little old lady with no hairs on her tongue!

I second both the White Gown in downtown Brooklyn (they are SOOOOO nice and helpful and I was truly amazed at their selection in terms of designers and sizes), and RK Bridal (a little more self service, a lot busier, but my experience with the consultants has been great and the prices are even greater!). Maggie Sottero, Blue by Enzoani, Alfred Angelo and Ella Bridals all make great dresses for us plus sized gals!

Hi.  Read retreadbride thread from Bristol, PA.  in full figure.  How far would that be from NYC?  I would take a ride to her hridal shop.  It would be well worth it.  She looks fantastic in the the gown and the price of alternations seems wonderful, too.
