My best recommendation is to disconnect your emotional ties with food. Really try very hard to change your view of food and what it is essentially for. I grew up with a family of emotional eaters (my mom and brother), both of which are considered obese. Myself, while a little chubby am nowhere over the “unhealthy” mark of being overweight. I am not terribly active and the only thing I can think of was my ability to disengage my love affair with food. Begin to visualize yourself as an engine and your engine requiring fuel (food) to burn and work properly. Only fill your tank as much as it would need to get you through the day. It sounds silly, but it is essentially true as comfort foods make you feel all ooey gooey inside but they do nothing for your health and energy level. Disconnect all emotions with eating and you will find a vast difference in how often you turn to food for comfort. This is just what I have done in my experience and it has helped me IMO, to avoid becoming morbidly obese like some family members.

Agreed! I’m the same way, I eat when I’m stress and bored. It sucks to have to take away something that you enjoy, but I hope your realizing that it’s hurting you.

I’m not one to automatically suggest therapy or counseling. But my mother went to a counselor for this and it really helped. Many times it’s more than just the immiediate situation that triggers the eating, sometimes it’s something much deeper. I hate to get a serious on you, but I do recommend this.

Don’t keep snacks and treats around the house. Stock your fridge with healthy foods ONLY.

I once heard a quote that stuck with me and may be a good reminder that you don’t need all the food you keep consuming when you’re stressed:

You eat to survive; you don’t survive to eat.
