hi hive!
i’ve been lurking around the boards for a looooooooong time now but have been a bit shy when it comes to posting
. i have a problem and i really hope that you guys can help!
i’m attending a wedding in september in london- SO’s cousin. it’s a late afternoon wedding and evening reception (which will probably go on until the early hours of the morning) and, from what i can tell (based on info from Future Mother-In-Law and SO) it will be a formal wedding. london weather at that time of year can be unpredicatable- ranging from gloriously hot and sunny to torrential rain!
i recently came across a dress that i would absolutely love to wear for the occasion, but i wonder if its just a bit too much? i’d appreciate your thoughts/advise on the matter please

I think it’s really beautiful. But, there’s no doubt that it will be an attention grabber. I’m also thinking that it looks like it would belong on someone in the bridal party–like a Maid/Matron of Honor.
Are you close to the bride to be? If so, talk to her and show her the dress, have her help you decide. If you aren’t close to the bride, you should really think about it. Have you showed your SO or SO’s mom?

I think it is beautiful – but I concur it looks a little BM/MOH-ish …

i’ve spoken to the bride and she has said anything that isn’t black/ivory/champagne is ok by her.
SO is completely hopeless when it comes to anything fashion related and said that as long as it wasn’t white and didn’t include a veil he couldn’t see a problem!
Future Mother-In-Law loves the dress but was worried that the colour is a bit of an eye catcher! i’m thinking maybe that could be the problem given the bright shade?

If those are the guidelines that the bride gave you – I say go for it if you can feel confident rocking it!

I think that it’s a combination of the color (although pretty) and the style. Maybe you should look at something with less embroidery, maybe less ‘dramatic’. I also think the other issue with this dress are the straps. Although it is different & sexy, maybe you should look at dresses with two straps, maybe a halter? Or strapless? I know you said it is a formal wedding, but what about a cocktail length?

thanks for the advice ladies
i think i’ll definitely be snapping it up anyway! i’m going to keep my eyes open for something else for the wedding, and if i do decide to go for something different, i can rock this beauty at my uni formal! so it most certainly will NOT be wasted
@ bride2bejc: i think your right about the strap, it is a bit OTT. i’m not too keen on cocktail length because i’ve already heard that the majority of (female!) guests are going to be in full length gowns. maybe a more subdued colour with a different cut?
EDIT: i’m posting my second choice dress… style as pictured, but in a deep violet instead of the blue. what do you think?

@ bamboo: thanks! i think option 2 might be my best bet. it’s the ‘safe’ option, but i’d much rather wear the ‘safe’ dress than offend any of SO’s family!

I would go with the 2nd dress. Infact, I’ve worn something verrryy simliar to a wedding recently! And I love all shades of purple, so I say go for it!

@ missAsB: thank you!
and i absolutely love the first one too! it will definitely be making an appearance somewhere!
@ bride2bejc: how did you accessorize that dress? the 2nd dress i’ve posted is very simple so do you think i should bling it up a bit with the acessories?
