So…I got my dress in and it was everything I ever imagined! I absolutely LOVE it….the only problem is it doesn’t fit!!! I can put it on but the whole back is open! I have a good 8 inches open and it is far from fitting. Crazy thing is I have actually lost weight and will continue to lose weight but I don’t think it is possible for me to close the gap. It may be…but I just don’t know. So now…here I am…wedding is in 4 months and I don’t know what to do. I called a bunch of bridal shops and one said that if I ordered another one they could have it here by May 16th with rush delivery….my wedding is MAY 29th! I’m so worried it won’t make it in time. Do I order it? Or do I suck it up and realize that I’m probably not going to get it…and start looking for another one? I’m sad bees…this was the dress of my dreams. Thoughts?

WOAH! did they order the wrong size?! If so, they need to rush you the right one IMMEDIATELY!
Could the back convert to a corset?

did the store make a mistake with the sizing? when you say “buy the same dress” does that mean pay twice??
the dress shop you ordered it from obviously ordered the wrong size. i would talk to them and make them find the solution

Did they order the wrong size??? If you order another one and it arrives on the 16th, what happens if you need alterations that won’t/can’t be done by the 29th??

How did the sizing get messed up so much? Maybe that is something you can talk to the store about because they should have taken your measurements and ordered the right size. It seems like 8 inches is a lot more than a simple error.
You could also have it modified by a tailor and see if you could have a corset back put into it. Those are much more forgiving. I don’t know if it’s 8 inches forgiving, but maybe 4.
If it’s your dream dress, you better find a way to fit into it!

i’m wondering the same thing as PP’s, did they order the wrong size? your dress shouldn’t come in being that much too small!

SO….I live in Arizona and the bridal shop is in Vegas. I was on a trip with my mom…found the dress and fell in love. I don’t really know how the dress was sooooo off! I tried on the same size dress and it fit (little snug) but it must have been a different designer! I have been trying to call the dress shop (the dress was shipped to me directly from them) but they have not returned my calls. =(
The back of my dress is already a corset! I don’t know that it is doable to fit in it…unless I do something drastic (HCG) but I don’t know how comfortable I am with that.
When I say…order the same dress…yes I do mean pay for the same dress through another bridal shop. =( They assured me that they could alter it in 10 days or so…so that I would have it in enough time for the wedding. But do I trust that it will get here on time? Ugh….I don’t know what to do.

I’m sorry to hear that! I hope that the bridal shop that you ordered the dress from fixes this issue, especially if it is their fault. Are you OK with buying a previously owned dress? That way, you could wear the same dress, and have it arrive sooner than May.

maybe im just an idiot, but what is HCG?

Is there any way to place panels in the side seams to give you a bit more room? Have they looked at the seam allowance to see how much they could let out the dress?

If it’s a corset back, how can it not fit? Isn’t there a modesty panel in the back and enough room to lace it up? Is it the bottom where it v’s that is too tight? Do you have pictures of you in it so we can see?

I think I can answer part of that. It sounds like they ordered it a few sizes too small. I tried on samples that were way too small, and even though they had a corset, the back was gaping so much that even though you could technically lace it up, the back doesn’t lay flat at a certain point and the modesty panel isn’t wide enough to close the gap.
OP: It sounds like your shop really screwed up on this one. You don’t suddenly gain eight inches in your midsection when you’re losing weight. Are you close enough to actually drive up to Las Vegas and talk to them in person? I’m sure they’re trying to give you the slip so they don’t have to deal with it.
In the meantime, I would consider buying a $99 dress from DB as a backup just in case the worst happens :(.

Both of my daughter’s dresses had corset backs too, so that’s what didn’t make much sense to me. Our seamstress even suggested wearing it without the modesty panel as they never lay right.( Not a good look,I think.)
You’re right. Sounds like the dress was either ordered in the wrong size or the OP wanted it ordered smaller if she wanted to lose weight. I’d contact the shop too.

Thanks for all the advice and messages ladies! I have an appt to meet with a seamstress today to see what my options are. Maybe if she takes material off the bottom (it def needs it) and can add some panelling to the sides it would fit. =) I’m hoping this will work. Plus, along with diet and exercise I should be able to close the gap over the next few months.
I am also heading to a bridal shop to look at some dresses and see if I have any options of ordering them before the big day. Maggie dresses are basically out of the question unless they have them in stock (which they only have a few-we called) and/or I buy it straight off the rack. Who knows though….maybe I will fall in love with something else and be a 2 dress bride (although, I won’t be wearing the first one. HA!)
I really do love my dress and hope I can get into it.
As for the Bridal shop in Vegas…they are going to get some nasty reviews from me!!!
