I think the dress is stunning, but I understand if you don’t feel like it’s “you.” Do you have a picture of yourself in it? This is how I personally would handle the situation.

  • Come clean to my mom, tell her how I feel. Promise that, if I find another dress that I love more, I’ll take responsibility for selling the old dress. And ask her if she wants me to take the financial loss.
  • Go out by myself or with 1 or 2 very close friends that I can count on to be honest but understanding of my opinion
  • If I find a dress (or a few) that I love, invite my mom to come see them before I buy, so she doesn’t feel left out

Oh no:( that’s too bad that your opinion got overshadowed. Maybe see if the shop has placed the order yet? If they haven’t maybe they would let you apply the deposit to a different dress?

@Utopia4us:  This is a good point, a lot of salons do that.

I did a bit of GOOGLING so I could find the dress you had your heart set on… Pronovia’s Benicarlo (is this it ???)

Honestly, I’d have to say that the dress you ended up with DOES have a 50s feel to it (you have to remember the 50s was a whole Decade… so 10 years of different looks).  Duchess Satin was definitely BIG… as was that pleated look… very much Hollywood Glamour if you ask me.

Altho the dress above is lovely… the pouffy feathery skirt on it doesn’t say 50’s silhouette to me… things tended to be more one-piece and flowy than multiple pieces sewn together to get that effect (GOOGLE for pics if need be… or cruise around that website I’ve linked above they have a lot of great info that show pics from the REAL WORLD and Brides married in the 50s)

BUT I agree… if you don’t absolutely LOVE it then you should go out and look some more.

I too bought a dress my mom wanted me to buy (because the store was closing and the dress was $100). UGH I wish I would’ve just told my mom No it’s not my style (very plain and no train). Hind sight is 20/20 though. I’ve since bought my dream dress and Mom understands. Good luck!

If you are not happy with the dress that you bought today, I strongly advise that you call to see if you can get a refund ASAP.  *hugs*
