Limousine: platinum is not better in my opinion it’s a personal preference. If she wants yellow gold then get it for her. Yellow gold looks beautiful with both diamonds and moissanite

Limousine: You’re incredibly thoughtful for doing all this research for your girlfriend. Pricescope is another website you might want to check out. I recommend bluenile.com for a wide array of diamonds for nearly every budget and they sell lovely yellow gold bands at an affordable price. I know your future fiance will love whatever you choose!

If she’s going to pass off the moissanite as a diamond if she gets one, I’ll advise you to get a very small diamond rather than then having her lie about her ring.

Is the pureness of the gold important to her? In that website you can find quite a few small diamond rings for around $800-900, but the majority of them are just 10k gold.

My ring is unenhanced moissanite from JTV. It is 1.3 ct center and .6 in the halo and band. You might find something reasonable there. Their moissanite elite collection is in gold (white or yellow). It is around your price range. I am very happy with my ring.

Limousine: I love moissanite, my ring is moissy and I am obsessed, but if your Girlfriend wants to pass it off as a diamond maybe getting her a diamond would be best.

There are lots of great places online for second hand or vintage tings, like ebay, etsy and ruby lane.

    This is a stunner http://www.rubylane.com/item/805115-DM1200/18K-Yellow-Gold-Three-Stone-Emerald

I just love Moissanites. Honestly they pass very easily for diamonds. I’ve never had anyone question it. However, despite your SO being against the diamond trade with her wanting a diamond so bad so you think she would eventually regret her ring knowing its a moissanite and not a diamond?

…Why don’t you call one of her good friends for advice? Perhaps her girlfriends know what she would like.

FWIW, I have a .50ct center lab-grown diamond between moissanite stones in white gold. I can tell you about the process of lab-grown diamonds, but suffice it to say they are as expensive and sometimes more expensive than naturally mined diamonds (and white diamonds are harder to grow in the lab) and the wait can get very long. We had ethical concerns regarding naturally-mined diamonds too.

Personally, I wouldn’t go with moissanite if she’s not comfortable with it, but you might put feelers out as to whether she might be into a completely different alternative to a diamond that will give you more flexibility. I’ve seen sapphire, emerald, ruby, alexandrite, opal, and pearl engagement rings–all beautiful. And the coolest engagement ring IMHO? It was wood.

And I think it’s lovely that you want to give her the world, but if $800 is what you have, then $800 is what you have. Remember that an engagement ring is the first piece of jewelry in a marriage–it doesn’t have to be the last. My parents had no engagement rings because they couldn’t afford it, but when my sister was born, five years later, my father gave my mother a 2ct. solitaire to commemorate the birth. My husband, who felt also a bit sheepish about the sidestones being moissanite and not diamonds, told me they were a “promise” for the future. Honestly? I didn’t care. I love my ring and all it represents, but I’d marry him any day of the week even if there were no ring.

Why won’t you go with a gemstone?

I love colored gemstones. You could probably get a sizable one for under $800 (maybe not sapphire).

Or you could go with white sapphire. Or morganite.

    Ok here’s another option. Semi-Mount Jewelry Exchange 379$, 7mm (1.25ct) Moissante from MoissaniteCo 335$ Total = 714$

Have it mounted for ?$ at your local jeweler. Done deal.

OP- I’m kind of confused? You say you and your girlfriend don’t like the diamond industry, but you’re considering buying a low grade diamond? If you don’t like the industry and don’t want to be a part of it.. then don’t?

Personally, I LOVE moissanites! I think they’re better than any diamond, especially if not liking the diamond industry is a factor.
