our furbaby rottie girl is scheduled to arrive in about three weeks, and its all I can think about. I am so super excited about it, and want to come up with a nice name before she gets here.
I want a “strong” name – if it were a male, I would’ve named him either Zeus or Titan/Titus. However, since we are getting a female, it would sound a little odd to name her such a “boyish” name. Any suggestions for strong, female names??
PS – pics will definitely be shared once she gets here!!

Well if you’re going with Greek god names, you could always name her Athena, Hera, or something like that and come up with a nickname. I love the idea of a strong female name.

For some reason the first things that came to my mind were Zelda or Xena or Zora. Maybe because you said Zeus. I also like Cassie, Akira, Stormy, and Sasha.
Congrats on the new fur baby!

Congrats on the new puppy! Like PPs said, I totally thought of Xena right away when you listed your boy names. I also like Athena. But I always ask if I can say a name sternly without laughing or sounding silly/not stern. You never know when you’ll have to give a command to stop your dog in her tracks, and a stern PENELOPE totally wouldn’t work for me. Haha.

So my friend has two rotties (a boy and a girl) and named them Samson and Delilah. I thought it was pretty cute.

Our little black cat is named Nova, so I might be biased! Just an FYI if you go with Nova, I think the word “no” gets kind of confusing to them because it’s the first half of their name. I say “NO!” to the her (not that the cats ever listen) and my husband always corrects me by saying “VA!” right afterwards. Not a big deal with cats, but I think it might be a little more challenging with a dog (especially a puppy you are trying to train). I’m sure there are a lot of dogs named Nova that have turned out just fine though, I just wanted to put it out there as something to think about!

@QueenGreen: Ooh, I hadn’t thought of that, thats a really good point. If i do go with that name, I might teach her “ah-ah!” as the “no” command, so it would be less confusing. Thanks!
Thanks everyone!! 🙂 I CANT WAIT. April 29th cannot come soon enough… I can hardly stand it.

How about Kali after the Indian goddess? Very strong female character.

I can’t wait to see pics of your puppy. I like a lot of the suggestions in this thread. How about Xena?

Yay for Rotties! We recently adopted a 4yr old from the pound and I am in LOVE with the breed.
I wanted to name ours Clarice (from Silence of the Lambs) – but Darling Husband wouldn’t have it. 🙂
I have a friend who used to have a Rott named Stormy – I think that’s cute.
