SO and I are talking about ordering my Ering and I need to decide which stone size! I am getting a cushion cut moissanite and I can’t decide between the 6mm and 6.5mm. I wanted the 6.5 because that is the diameter equivelant of a Ring Bearer 1 ct stone, and I really like that size, but for the cushion it is 1.4 carat equivalent. My SO is just getting out of college and I don’t want the ring to scream FAKE (I am perfectly comfortable and happy with the fact that my ring will be moissanite instead of a diamond, but I have this complex where I don’t want people to judge me). If someone asks me if it is a real diamond I will be telling them that it is actually a real moissanite, but I’m hoping it won’t have to come up very often.
Question: Do you think the 6.5mm would be too large?
Or that the 6mm would look better on my finger?
My finger is a 5.5 for reference.
I would appreciate any advice you are willing to give!

haha i did the same with mine!! I would say 6 if your jobs dont pay a lot or have a lot of people to judge. the smaller the stone the easier it is to pull off being a diamond and people not questioning. i am getting a 5.5 or 6 depending on what my SO chooses. Mine will be with a halo setting so we went a little smaller

I think either option will look beautiful. However, I probably would choose the 6.5mm/1.4-c equivalent.

@MarshmallowLatte: The 6mm will be easier to pull off without people wondering so much but I think either looks great! I think you should go bigger!

I say go bigger. You’re going to (in theory) have it forever. Situations will change. The bigger size will suit your finger better.

Bigger isn’t always better in my opinion. My ring is 1/2 carat diamond but it was my fiance’s great-grandmother’s diamond and I would rather have that beautiful heirloom on my finger than some giant rock 🙂

Depends on the setting. 6 if halo? 6.5 if solitaire?

I just love that you cut out those pics!!! I think that if you are going to pass it off as real then you should go smaller. If you are going to be honest about it being a moissy then go big or go home. U better post pics lol

6.5. Shrinkage happens, you’ll get older and it’ll ‘look more right’. No one is really going to think about what a cushion equivalant is anyways vs what the round size would be.

I say buy whatever you want and if people ask, tell them “it’s nunya”…hahaha..jk…I think either is good. Tell people whatever you want. It’s your ring and if you’re happy, that’s all that matters.

Thanks for the opinions ladies!
I talked to SO about it, and he seems to think the 6mm looks more like the right size. I cut out the 1ct Ring Bearer and, though I didn’t want to admit it… I think the 6mm looks closer to the Ring Bearer. What do you think?

@GelaMac: Haha thanks! I am such a visual learner, I just couldn’t help myself.
And you better believe I will be posting pics all over the place when I get it!

I have a 6mm round moissanite (.75 ct. equivilent) and the same size finger as you. Thought it might help you to see what the size looks like on me.
If you’re really having trouble deciding though you could go try on diamond rings just to get an idea of what size looks best!
