So, I’m stuck in Germany until a month before my wedding, which doesn’t give me a lot of time to go cake tasting… Our previous baker backed out, so now I have to find someone else (which I did) and decide on a cake flavour…
Of the choices she gives, I’m debating between red velvet cake and white almond sour cream cake… Have you tasted both of these before? Which do you like better?
Either way, it would most likely have cream cheese filling. The cake is being made with buttercream instead of fondant.
Thanks very much!!

@flee: I voted for the sour cream cake. I do like red velvet, I just feel like it is so overdone. I’ve had it at four weddings and I think the other choice is much more original.

What Mrs. Chubbybunny said.
(Also, do you have someone that can go and do a tasting for you?)

Every wedding I’ve been to where there was some sort of nut flavored cake (hazelnut, almond, etc) people complained about the cake. So I would go with red velvet.

Red velvet appeals to more people than almond. Plus, who doesn’t like chocolate?

@Mrs.ChubbyBunny: Agreed, I am not the biggest fan of red velvet and yet it is everywhere. The almond cake sounds delicious!
As mentioned by PP do you have someone that can actually taste the cake. If one is awful than there isn’t a question of what to do, you have to go with what is the better tasting cake. Red velvet if not done right can be dry and awful for sure!
