- Wedding: September 2010
So today we met with two caterers, one of which we will sign a contract with (hopefully sooner rather then later!), but we simply cannot decide which caterer to go with! Our options:
Our local food co-op (which sources everything it sells local, organic, and earth friendly!) has a small cafe with Amazing, delicious, cheap food. One of the women who works there owns her own catering company with the same values as the co-op. We would be hiring her (and her company) Through the co-op. She was super friendly, professional, and seemed to have her poop together. When we walked in having no idea what we wanted to serve, other then good food, she threw out ideas and options, came up with some amazing sounding food, and ended up creating a whole menu for us, from nothing! She is willing to work with our super tiny budget ($1,500 for 100 people) and can include linens. All fees, delivery, service, etc. would already be wrapped up in the per plate cost. The only extras would be dessert, coffee service, and they would need to get into our reception hall 1 hour early. She encouraged us to find good deals on things elsewhere (like looking around for better prices on pies) and she seemed “into” our ideas. I walked out of the meeting with visions of wedding food in my head for the first time ever!
This company is run by a husband and wife team who also believe in sourcing everything local, organic, and earth friendly. We had a taste test with them today. Some of their food was whatever and some was amazing. Of the 9 things they made for us, only their ravioli and pie really stood out. While they seemed nice I don’t feel they grooved with us quite as much as with my FI’s parents (who were with us at both meetings). They didn’t really offer any ideas on how to structure our menu and would need us to rent an additional 3 hours at our reception hall for setup. They also do free linens, but really only encouraged us to rent everything else through them. They did offer environmentally friendly options for china & drinkware, and they also do a bar tending service at $15/hr per bar tender, minimum 2 bar tenders. Delivery, service, and other fees are additional to the per plate fee. They said they normally run $15-$30 per plate, but if my Future Mother-In-Law builds them a website, they might be able to work with our $1,500 budget. They liked our idea of being 100% vegetarian or with only having 1 meat dish (set to the side), but they seemed to have no idea what to do in face of us not having set, decided ideas about the food we’d like to serve.
We’re not sure what to do really. Both companies were great. They both are super excited to do our wedding 100% vegetarian the way we want and both meet our hope of local, organic, earth friendly food service. Our reception hall is $110 per hour. If we go with company #1, we’ll only need to tack on 1 hour ($110) for them to prep and get things set up and if we go with company #2 we’ll need to tack on 3 hours ($330). My Future In-Laws really grooved with caterer #2 and seemed to be leaning towards them, as they really liked all the food and the caterer. My Fiance and I are leaning towards caterer #1, as we grooved better with her and loved that she was happy planning our food for us.
We’re at an empass- Please Hive, Who should we Hire?!
