Dilemna: Already bought a dress (dress 1). It was a sample (although I think I got ripped off because the designer’s label was taken out and the shop’s label was sewn in instead and it still wasn’t cheap). I would definitely take off the one shoulder strap to make it strapless! Really liked the layers of lace. Thought I would need a beaded sash to break up all that lace (a la Chelsea Clinton, but smaller.) Had second thoughts- would need lots of alterations to get it down to the right size, too much boning inside made it slightly uncomfortable, didn’t get that happy feeling deep down to be wearing it, at least in an unaltered state. (I even bought clips to try it on at home!)
Went looking again online and in a couple stores. Found dress 2. Always figured I’d want strapless, but loved the romantic looking neckline. Feels comfortable. It has the mermaid/trumpet silhouette that I love more so than the other. Felt happy to wear it.
*I didn’t include photos of me in either, because the shop where I tried the second one one didn’t allow it. But I’m going to say (hopefully) that they both will look similar on me because I wear a smaller size like the models!
*Our wedding is outdoors in a downtown garden surrounded by the city (Chicago) skyline and in a downtown restaurant that does weddings right on the river. It’s got an exposed brick, classic Chicago sort of vibe. I want to look elegant, classic, and still soft and romantic on our wedding day. So….which should I choose?

Forgot to mention- I would take off the one shoulder strap for dress 1!!!!!

I LIKE the 1 shoulder! It’s a tough call. They are both kinda similar. I like the look of 1 with the strap, but I really like the cut, bustline, sleeves of 2. Either one is lovely!
Whereabouts in Chicago? I was married at The Botanic Garden! (I think I know the place you are talking about, but I can’t recall the name -I pass it on my way home from work.)
I am attempting to start a polite campaign for beautiful brides to stop harping on size. I think it may make brides who aren’t a size 2 feel bad.

I like the sleeves of n.2, but the shape of n.1.

The scalloping on that dress is beautiful! I think your garden setting would be perfect for it! I too would opt out the strap, but thats just me! =) Best of luck!

i love dress one. i love the layering of the laces..

Both dresses are beautiful! If you already have dress #1, why not stick with it and alter it till it fits you like a glove. It looks gorgeous and romantic, and i think the strap completes the look.
I know the second dress costs $2000, if you really want it and want to spend then go for it. It is after all your day so do what makes you happy.

I vote Dress 2. 1 is really pretty, but if it doesn’t fit you and feels not so great then theres your answer 🙂

I love them both, honestly! I like dress two a tiny bit more, but it depends on which looks better on you. You can’t go wrong with either dress, they are both gorgeous!

I love the modern romantic look of dress one.

Both are beautiful, but I voted for dress 1 because it was one of my dream dresses to try on, even though I never ever found it! I also love it exactly as is, but I am a sucker for a one shoulder dress and ultimately wanted one myself.
In fact… if you remove the one strap, my vote transfers to dress 2, cause I think that would take away from the whole beauty and softness of the dress.

I tried on the Adela the other day and was in love. It’s so beautiful and slimming.
