Good food at our wedding is super important to us. We have opted for an extensive buffet at our weddings as everyone seems to be on a particular diet these days & I always get food envy at weddings of the persons plate next to me & wish I’d ordered what they did.
Below is our menu & as you can see we receive all the cold dishes & we get to select 4 of the hot dishes for the buffet. The hot selection also includes garden vegetables, roasted baby potatoes & steamed rice.
Please help me choose my four options & take into account what cold dishes we have 🙂

jessiebear85 : Do you have lots of vegetarians and/or allergies? That might change my thinking. But otherwise, I might select the following:
- Medallion of beef
- Baked breast of chicken (I’m allergic to shrimp, so would pick this one haha)
- Cajun style medallion of fresh fish (you have salmon and mussels in your cold dishes, although that dish sounds good too!)
- And if you have vegetarians, I’d also pick the grilled vegetarian lasagna
- If you don’t have vegetarians, I’d pick another meat dish. The lamb sounds awesome! But I know that’s a divisive dish 🙂

jessiebear85 : My choices would be the lamb, the chicken and shrimp dish, the pork medallions, and the veggie lasagna (to accommodate the vegetarians.
I would definitely switch out the chicken dishes if you have a lot of known shrimp allergies.
I would say any combination of four would provide something for everyone!!

I think you have enough seafood in the cold dishes that you don’t need to pick a hot seafood dish. I’d go for the medallion of beef, the chicken, either the lamb or the pork and the veggie lasagne. If you’re positive you won’t have any vegetarians, skip the lasagne and go for the lamb and the pork!

I wouldn’t do any more fish. The cold stuff is very fish heavy- which I wouldn’t eat any of and if I was a guest there’s not much of the cold I would eat. I would do
chicken without shrimp (paprika sauce sounds yummy too)

Thanks! At this stage I am thinking roasted beef with middle eastern spices, baked paprika chicken & vegetable lasange as we do have vegetarians.
I can’t decide on the fourth option. Is it lamb, more seafood or pork?

I agree with a PP who said that the cold selection is very seafood heavy, so I would probably steer clear of a hot seafood option.
Personally I’d probably go with the beef medallion, baked chicken breast and the grilled vegetable lasagne (to cater for vegetarians). I’m having a hard time choosing between the Mediterranean lamb and the pork medallion – I’m from Australia, so lamb always goes down well here, but pork does too. Based on the descriptions, I’m leaning slightly more towards the pork.

JessieFay13 : I’m from New Zealand & we love our lamb too! Not sure about the medallions since fiance is allergic to mushrooms.

jessiebear85 : How allergic is he? Like if others are eating mushrooms around him will he be affected? I have an allergy to shellfish but we still served shellfish canapes at our wedding. There weren’t any shellfish meal options available, but if there were we would have considered them the same as the other options (I just wouldn’t have tasted). Darling Husband enjoys shellfish, as do lots of our guests (particularly my family), so we figured scrapping it completely just because I can’t eat it was a bit much. I am not overly allergic though – I can even eat a little bit and (usually) get away with it.
Of course, you should pick the meal options you want. But if you would like the beef medallion and the only reason you’re hesitant is because of his allergy, there are ways to avoid him ingesting any.

I would skip the seafood dishes. I would do the veggie lasagna, paprika chicken, the lamb, and the pork (or one of the beef in lieu of pork).

If I was just ordering for my crowd it would be beef medallions, lamb, chicken and shrimp, and veg lasagna. You know your audience better than we do.

The cold menu is already very seafood focused, so I’d go with the lamb, the middle eastern beef, the pork, and the veggie lasagne.

I think the 3 youre leaning toward plus lamb would be perfect. Stay away from extra fish, there is soo much seafood in the cold part.

I’d go with these:
Medallion of Beef (or Mediterranean lamb if you need to avoid mushrooms)
Chicken with smoked paprika cream
Cumin pork with pumpkin apple sauce
