Where is the destination?  If it’s tropical, I think the neutrals would work best…it would be a nice contrast with the surroundings.  If it’s a wintery location, I think the brights would work best for the same reason — contrast.

I like the mis matched neutrals.  You can always get bright flowers/a bright flower for each of them to carry.

I think both look really great and depending on your destination, the bright might work well with your theme. ๐Ÿ™‚

However, I think the mismatched tan dresses will be more timeless. In 20 years, I don’t think people will look back and be like Oooh that was definitely 20 years ago! I am also doing mismatched shades of tan though (and hints of blush) so I am a little biased

    I’ll help break the tie!

I think the bright dresses would fit a tropical destination better. It also gives your ladies a bigger range of colours to play with so that hopefully everyone can find a colour that flatters them. Not everyone looks good in neutrals.

    I will NOT HELP!!

I think the NEUTRAL dresses would be a more modern fit for a tropical destination.  Bright colors are expected and everywhere…neutrals would be classy, elegant, and timeless.

Although I do think it’s true that not everyone looks good in neutrals!

@Blushingbella:  I like the mixed neutrals; however if you still want the color have you considered having them wear bright shoes? I don’t have the picture handy; but I’ve seen it done (yay Pintrest! lol!) and it still looked good. ๐Ÿ™‚

Also, to make sure that my mismatched bridesmaids looked somewhat coordinated, I visited a fabric store and picked four colours of the same material that looked good together. I then gave these to my bridesmaids to make up in a pattern of their choice. I’ll also be giving them all a matching brooch to wear on the day to tie them all together.

Keep an open mind when you go in the store though. I thought I wanted four different shades of blue, and ended up with a colour combination I hadn’t even considered!

I voted the bright colours, simply because I think you’ll find it easier to find colours to suit all of your bridesmaids that way. I could not wear any of the neutral colours as I am fair skinned with cool tones. OK, I could stretch to a ice pink, but I would probably be miserable in it.

There is probably a middle ground though – pastels in mixed tones, ice-cream colours (darker, bright pastels), or a mix of both, like this:

What I like about the above picture is that she’s got a range of skin tones and hair colours there with her bridesmaids, but they all suit what they’re wearing.

I completely love bright colors, but I think they are trickier to get right. They only look coordinated when they all have similar color intensity. With neutrals, that’s kinda automatic – they’re all low saturation – but with brights it’s harder to balance. So if you ask each girl to show up in a neutral dress, without coordinating or approving their choices beforehand, it will probably turn out better than having them show up in bright dresses.

If you decide to go with the neutrals, you could enhance the look by including cool neutrals (e.g. slate blue) as well. That would add some color variety and provide good options for girls whose skin tone doesn’t work with tan.
