Find something that fits both of your criteria!  You want to feel comfortable and beautiful when you’re out there… don’t wear a dress where you doubt one or the other.

shiyun87:  I think the second one is SO flattering on you! I love the movement in the skirt, too! If you’re uncomfortable in it, though, definitely don’t buy it. I never wear strapless, either, and I thought I would want a gown with an illusion neckline at least, but I ended up going strapless because I thought dresses with straps and sleaves drew attention to my arms and I hate my arms!

If you like the second one but just don’t like that it’s strapless, could you have straps made for it or maybe even a bolaro? The shape is lovely on you!

I love the simplicity and elegance of the boatneck!  I think when you have the veil on, and after alterations, and when your hair and makeup is all done, the last thing you’ll think about is your arms!

The second one definitely looks beautiful on you, but you need to go with what works for you.  Maybe try a different designer in the same style of dress 1?  I think the style could look great on you, maybe just not this particular dress.  I would keep looking.

shiyun87:  I think the 2nd one looks flatterring on you mainly because it’s a higher waisted dress rather than a natural waist dress. You need to be comfortable in the dress though so my suggestion is to either alter the 2nd dress so that there is a cap sleeve or spaghetti strap if it will make you feel more comfortable.

Alternatively go look at more dresses which has the similar shape to your 2nd dress πŸ™‚

The second is more flattering, but I don’t think either are your dress. I love the idea of a boatneck on you – something classic and laid-back chic – but I don’t think the execution of the first one is working. The waist (maybe it’s the belt) is adding unnecessary bulk to your midsection, and the fabric is also quite heavy, especially with the pleats.

What about a boatneck style with an illusion neckline? Something with a strapless/sweetheart neckline with a tulle or lace overlay would be flattering and still within your comfort zone, I think?

I’m surprised the sweetheart one isn’t comfortable! Which one makes you feel best? Does one fit your venue better?

shiyun87:  I actually think the boat neck is more flattering, or at least has the potential to be. It needs to be taken in around the bust and waist, and I also think the waistline should be raised an inch or two. However the material and the pleating of the skirt seem to be adding bulk and I’m not sure if that is fixable.

I think flounced skirts like the second are really difficult to pull off – especially if you don’t feel confident in the dress in the first place.

But I do agree with peonyinparis’s suggestion of maybe an illusion boat neck, like this one by Sincerity:

i like the chiffon of the second, but the top looks very tight and i think you could find a better one! i’m in the process of finding a dress myself, and i know how hard it is haha. i recently put a poll up too! i have faith that we will find the perfect one for us. happy hunting πŸ˜€
