I was just, by some miracle, assigned this amazing assignment in my Systems Analysis class to plan a mock wedding! Of course I’ll be planning my own, though…;)
Anyway, there are 3 components of this project: MS Project for tasks/subtasks, Oracle database implementation for items, names, etc, and create an application for Android that is wedding related. All of this is due by the end of November, when finals are for graduating seniors (me! :D).
So, my question to you ladies is this:
If you were to get an app on Android (or Iphone) that was wedding related, what kind would you want? I’m gathering ideas before I formulate and build mine on Basic!
Thank you ladies! 🙂

Please add all of the above as an option 🙂

It would be great to have a wedding planning app that could interface with documents on google drive and include a task list with reminders. Plus, that app would meet more of the requirements for your project than a countdown app.

Maybe a virtual folder/binder?
You could add specific pictures, notes, ideas to each page
Each page could be a category such as centerpieces, DJ, Food…

A Bridezilla Meter that tells you your current bridezillaness.

A few things I’d love:
– A checklist for needed things (cake, tables, cutlery, food, venue, etc)
– Maybe a reminder like “You need to get: x, y, and z”
– I love the idea of a dress generator!
– A hairstyle generator according to your face shape would be great, too!
– Like someone said, a way to integrate the checklist with Google docs

A budget calculator, including easy way to input purchase when you make it
Deadline reminder (ie: vendor payment due in X days)

I’m so sorry I didn’t respond for a while! Weddingbee kept telling me it couldn’t find the webpage for a while, and then I had to run some errands before it came back up! :/
I really love all of these suggestions, especially the Bridezilla one haha.
I want the app to be useful, but fun to use, so maybe it will be a mixture of these wonderful ideas. Thank you Bees, you ladies are great! 🙂

a weddingbee app?? lol but in all seriousness I’d stay away from the quiz apps and I would rather have something practical like a virtual binder, checklist, place where I can store pics of dresses/hairstyles/photos I take and have it organized..

@Woodstock: I’m definitely seeing the need for a planning app! I’ll start to think of a good way to organize it and think of a potential layout and see how it would look before I start coding it 🙂
This is cool!

Personally I like the countdown. Small wedding so all the checklist/timeline apps were super overkill. I have a widget that tells me how many days. It’s just a generic countdown app, shows a little calendar icon with a number and an tiny icon (I picked a heart of course).
But for your grade I’d do something more! Since the count down is just a X date minus today and a bit of graphics I wouldn’t be that impressed. You and other bees have already posted good ideas. I especially love the Wedding bee app tho. 🙂

@MrsTangerine: The teacher is more worried about the MS Project and Oracle database implementation aspects of the project more than the app itself. As long as the code is correct and it’s wedding related, that’s what she is looking for. However, since I’m planning a wedding myself, I do want to make an app I would use. If it’s really good, I plan to put it into the apps market, maybe sell it for $0.99 or something. I’ve already made a few apps, but they were just for personal use or friends. Since weddings are always relevant, I think it would be a cool way to try to make a little money.
I would try to make a Weddingbee app, but I think I’d have to get permission from the owners of the website first, etc. That may take a while. If I had permission and licensing and such, I’d take a crack at it, for sure!

@Elvis: Deffinitly this Bridezilla is the best!

@Pokemon: I can see this as being a 3-button app initially, then breaking down into different listviews in the code. So for the budget list view, you would want the total budget displayed, but then with, say, a drop down menu (or something similar) you would want the different activities broken down. You want the ability to add the amount you deposited next to the activity.
Would you want the app to continuously add the amounts you deposited next to the budget you initially set, to keep track of how you are going along with keeping budget? Or would you prefer that every time you deposited money on an activity, money is taken away from your budget, until it reaches $0?
I’m just brainstorming right now.
