Depending on your favorite color you could have a gradient. So for example, put a ruby in the center, two darker pink sapphires on the side, and then two light pink sapphires (or other light pink stone) on the very outside.

I would probably do alternating rubies in yellow gold.

mrsbluetomato :  I agree with the previous bee. A color gradient would be beautiful. Mix in some rubies and garnets, maybe some tourmaline (all pink/red colored stones) and I would have it in yellow gold mainly just because with that crown shaped setting and the almost royal kind of etching in the metal plus the fact it will likely have rubies, it screams yellow gold. That’s a beautiful ring!

mrsbluetomato :

I would try very hard to find perfect garnet to go with ruby, this would make for not just a pretty but also a very personal and sentimental ring (both yours and Darling Husband birthstones). For garnets there are actually quite many color options: https://www.gia.edu/garnet-quality-factor.

How about rhodolite garnet which is a purplish red variety and then maybe pick a ruby which is also just a bit on the pink side (but not so light pink as to be a pink saphire yet).

I think lab grown rubies would go very well with the traditionally dark red garnet. Lab rubies often are missing the pinkypurple tones that natural ones have so are closer in tone to garnets. Lab ones also have less inclusions,  making them closer to garnet clarity. Maybe finished on the sode with pink tourmaline?

mrsbluetomato :  Beautiful choice! It’s something I would want myself. It’s going to look gorgeous in yellow gold! It’s funny because ruby is my birthstone and garnet is my Dear Fiance birthstone. 🙂 I’m looking forward to see what you come up with and your finished ring!
