so our invites are going out in less than 2 weeks… and we just added 20-30 extra people on to our list (long story).
we’re looking at things we could cut on the budget. please vote for your #1 choice to cut.
and please comment with opinions!
THINGS WE WANTED THAT WE MAY NOW CUT
-outdoor decor for our cocktail hour
-upgrading beer from miller light and yuengling to amstel light and sam adams oktoberfest
-out of town bags
-adding a 4th passed hors doeuvre (sp?) (there will still be 3 passed and cheese/crackers, fresh/roasted veggies, crostinis with various toppings and baked brie on the tables)
-a shuttle bus from hotel to reception and back.
P.S. here is our venue- so you can see why we’d like uplighting and cocktail hour decor…

@Rouquine: thanks for your opinion!
the beer upgrade was really more for my enjoyment than anything. sure, i like yueng- but beer is currently my drink of choice and i wanted something more exciting!
and i (and my entire family) agree with you about cocktail hour. we’ve been mulling it over for months- its such a blank space… but so HUGE.
as of right now, i think i’m going to cut uplighting, outdoor decor and OOT bags. but we have some time to think about it..
i just needed a quick way to poll a ton of people!

I would def cut the beer..Miller Lite is my fav beer anyways=)
You can also pass on the extra food passed and the extra decor at cocktail hour to save some serious cash

Cut the uplighting and the OOT bags. Pleeeeaaaaaseeee don’t cut the beer! Nooooooooo!!

@mrssrm: Ha, I’m with you on the beer.
I would cut the uplighting, OOT bags and the cocktail hour decor. The room looks beautiful I don’t think it needs much. I feel like the guests will appreciate and better beer (well, if they are like me they would, guess it depends on your guests!) and the shuttle and will notice and remember that a lot more than the decor.
ETA – Just noticed you have Sam Octoberfest on the upgraded list. First of all, I’m jealous that’s available during your wedding, and second you can’t cut that! haha.

I would definitely cut OOT bags, uplighting, and cocktail hour decor. OOT bags are a nice gesture but I just feel they are not worth the time and money, and I doubt they will be missed. I agree with PP regarding the cocktail hour decor and uplighting. As far as beer it seems as though you would enjoy the upgrade so I would keep it that way 🙂 I enjoy Oktoberfest as well. FInally I would not under any circumstances cut the shuttle. I feel it’s so important to provide this for the guests, seeing as how they chose to do the responsible thing and stay over, there is reason they should take a risk of needing to drive during/after drinking.

i would say the uplighting and the outdoor decor. the cocktail hour is only for a short time so there’s no need for extra decor expense. that being said, you can probably cut back on that 4th hors d’oeurve. your guests won’t notice and they won’t be full for dinner.
i think oot bags are a great detail to show an extra thankyou for those guests who took the time to travel to spend the day with you.
the shuttle is also a thoughtful service for your guests. just make sure that your guests are aware of this prior to making other arrangements.

@msalexa: you ladies are awesome for supporting my beer choice. i thank thee! (i really wanted yards brawler… but i think its not best for a crowd and its too expensive, anyway. sams is a good choice)
and you’re making me feel so much better about OOT bags!
its expensive and time consuming!

@September29: That beer is so perfect for that time of year! Trust me, I’m sure the OOT guests much rather prefer to be driven to and from the venue safely and provided great food and drink as opposed to a little goody bag. My personal opinion as both a former bride and guest.

I would cut the uplighting and the shuttle bus. People are adults they can get themselves back and forth
Post # 13
@September29: So will you still have Miller Lite or some other beer like that available? Not sure how the pricing goes, but it would annoy me if I was spending extra money for the good stuff and people were begrudgingly drinking it wishing it was a Miller Lite.
I do agree though to definitely make sure the guests are fully aware of this shuttle. I dont remember if the hotel informed my guests or if it was word of mouth or some combination, but they all knew and used it.

@Natalieh86: miller light would still be there. (or amstel if we decide to pay for the upgrade)
we’d switch the yueng for the sam
I would cut (in this order) the cocktail decor, the OOT bags, and the uplighting.
