I asked for help a couple days ago with honeymoon ideas and received lots of help. So I am hoping that you ladies might be able to help me some more. After going over just about every possible option my Fiance helped me narrow it down to two options.
Option #1: Go to an all inclusive at one of the US Virgin Islands. It would take all our budget though so we wouldn’t be able to do any excursions, just enjoy the resort.
Option #2: Rent a house in the Outer Banks of NC. Spend the week enjoying each others company, do all sorts of outdoor activities that we love.
Which option do you think is better? Also if you know anything about either location, any advice would be appreciated as neither of us know much of anything about either.

well if you go to USVI, you’ll be lounging by the pool and beach pretty much the whole time. if you go to outer banks, you can be more active. which do you and fi prefer?

If it were me, I would do the Virigin Islands. After all the wedding festivities, I would just like to lounge around and not have to think about food/cooking/cleaning up the house…and you can do that with an AI. Plus, the beach is nicer, it’ll be warmer and more tropical. But either way, I’m sure you’ll have a fabulous time! Good luck.
**Adding. Many AI resorts have activities included like snorkeling, kayaking, organized volleyball games, etc.

I have been to the outer banks before (rented a house for a week, in Corolla). The beach is great, and one day we went kayaking and another day we went horseback riding. The other days we went to the beach and the pool. Where we were in the town itself wasn’t that great–typical kind of suburbia place with chain stores and strip malls. There was a cuter section of town, but I think it was more expensive to stay there. That’s just to give you an idea of what it’s like, at least in my experience. Could end up being a great honeymoon, depending on what you set up, or it could end up just being kind of…blah. IDK anything about the Virgin Islands, but I hear they are fantastic.

I’ve vacationed several times in both locations and they both have great options.
It really comes down to what you want to do on your honeymoon.
The Outer Banks has more “to do” in terms of places to go- lighthouses, other islands, shopping
The Virgin Islands however is a tropical paradise- also with shopping but really amazing beaches. Like a PP said, many all-inclusives have activities included in their price.
I’m not too sure how warm it will be in the Outer Banks in May…if you’re looking to lounge on the beach all day, the Virign Islands would be the better choice, in my opinion- tropical beach + tropical drink=perfection 🙂

I’ve been to both….and I must admit that the Virgin Islands are MUCH more beautiful! I suppose it depends on how much activity you and your soon-to-be hubby enjoy. For us, relaxing poolside/beachside was what we both desired after the whirlwind of wedding events. Why not do that somewhere gorgeous?!?!
P.S. You’ll probably get some $$$ for gifts, so maybe that would allow you to go on a couple excursions!!

Definitely the Virgin Islands!

You know what? We are total “doing” people, but when it came to our honeymoon, we went on a cruise, and there honestly wasn’t that much to do — and it was perfect!
After the wedding (which we had to travel to get to) and the stress of everything leading up to it, plus the stress of staying with our parents while in town, all we wanted was to sleep, and be together, with no responsibilities.
I doubt we’d ever feel the need to do another vacation of that type in our lives, but it was ideal for the honeymoon. Seriously, we took naps every day and slept like ten hours every night. It was bliss.

LOL! I have to laugh at this because I just told someone a couple of days ago that we are making all these plans for what we want to do while we are in Curacao on our Honeymoon. I know after all the stress of planning the wedding and then going through with everything, I’m just going to end up wanting to taking a nap every day and sleeping like 10 hrs every night! THAT sounds like bliss to me!!! 😉

After all you ladies were great and gave lots of advice, I thought I owed letting you know what we decided. Even though the consensus was to do the opposite we decide to honeymoon in the Outer Banks. Your advice helped us realize that the island experience wasn’t really what we were looking for, especially hearing about so much sleeping. Instead we decided we’d spend half the cost and stay in the Outer Banks, which sounds more our style. That way we can go to an island when we will have more energy. We are so excited, thanks for all your help!

I know that I’d much prefer to do activities than lay around, but some people want the exact opposite in a vacation. So I think it depends on whether you’d get antsy just sitting around.
