So I really need to try and make a final decision about the song for my father/daughter dance, because honestly it’s starting to stress me out. The hardest part, I think, is that my dad and I don’t have a particularly sentimental or sappy relationship, so songs like “Daddy Dance with Me” really aren’t going to cut it.
I’ve managed to narrow it down to 3.
1. Can You Feel the Love Tonight – Elton John. This is the most sentimental out of all the options, but only because I was obsessed with The Lion King as a kid and so, in a way, this would be kind of reflective of my childhood. My only concern is that I don’t want people to laugh or think it’s stupid. I know, I know. I’m a 27 year old adult and who the hell cares what other people think? Still, I’m just having a difficult time overcoming that aspect for some reason.
2. How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) – James Taylor. It’s cute, it’s simple, it’s upbeat. Also good because my dad actually likes James Taylor, so it’s fitting in that way.
3. My Girl – The Temptations. This one is simple and easy but also a bit of a stretch – as in, I would kind of feel like I just picked it because it’s the easiest and a good default option because I couldn’t decide on anything else. Out of all the options this one just seems the least like my dad and I.
Input is appreciated! 🙂

I like “My Girl” best. My dad and I danced to “Isnt she Lovely”. It is overdone, but I always really liked the song anyway.

Did you ask your dad for his input? Not that you have to, but it made it easier for me. I think you should go with what is most sentimental to you, screw it if anyone doesn’t get it!
Also really love My Girl! I wanted to go with The Rolling Stones version 🙂

Dance to what you like, Im not a particularly sentimental person and gave my dad some options, he came back with butterfly kisses. I maybe rolled my eyes a little because it’s definitely not a ‘me’ song, and he danced to it with 2 of my other sisters.
Humumph, he is now considering his options and says we don’t have to be in a hurry to pick something. I really like the ukulele version of somewhere over the rainbow.

I wouldn’t use Can You Feel The Love Tonight simply based on the lyrics.

I like My Girl!
One option is “When you need me” by Bruce Springsteen.
I never even heard the song till my Dad picked it (I didn’t know till we did our dance!) but it was perfect. My Dad and I have had a rough relationship growing up, but as I have gotten older we have gotten better. We just don’t express our emotions well =) But it does a great job without being overly sappy. Just an idea! =)

#1 isn’t really danceable in my opinion.
I’d go with 2 or 3. Probably 2 since you know your dad is a fan.

I really like Daughters by John Mayer! 🙂

That opening bass line to “My Girl” is perfect like just roll the credits there & it’s a happy ending.
”Can you feel the Love tonight” is a bit heavy or a father daughter dance.
What did your Dad say?

I like “Isn’t she lovely” Stevie Wonder. When I was a little girl my dad and I had a special song, “I want to hold your hand” Beatles 🙂
