I have been researching and communicating with a custom dressmaker that is US based; Her name is Wendy and she owns Ieie’s dress boutique. It is looking very good and I am STRONGLY considering using her instead of buying my dress online from bestbridalprices or the like because she would make the same dress but also customize it to add some things I really would like to add. I’ve loved this dress for months now but always thought “if only I could change/add x and y” and going the custom route would allow for that at a very reasonable price.
I know I posted a question about whether or not to use IEIE or not and so I’m not asking that. I just want opinions on this one dress customizing option.
I want opinions on what kind of ruffles to add to the train. I want to add a ruffled and longer train to the dress, everything else will be pretty much the same but she asked if I’d be wanting lace ruffles or chiffon ruffles or something else and I wanted to know what you guys thought. First here is the dress as-is, if I bought it online today (and apologies if you’ve seen me post it 100 times already):
I think that making the train a bit longer and adding some ruffle detail would really make it unique. Obviously in the examples I’m giving here, some of the dresses are more of a ballgown so the effect on “my” dress would be different as it’s a narrower cut, but you get the general idea. I was thinking the dress would come around to the back and then perhaps be a split skirt with the ruffles coming from underneath, or else they could just be attached directly to the back of the dress… what do you think?? My inspiration for this comes from the following pics:
So the decisions I have to make:
Should I ask her for a split skirt with ruffles coming out from under, starting right below the waist, or, should I ask that the ruffles just be attached to the back of the dress on top of the regular skirt layer, or, something else I haven’t considered… and should I start the ruffles right at the sides or more centered in back?
should I go with lace ruffles or chiffon, tulle, or something else entirely? Satin? Would that look right? I couldn’t find examples of that.
She mentioned that if I do that (use some other fabric) then she’ll have to take care to match the fabric shades. Maybe lace is best..?
