I found articles like these really helpful. I kept my birth name. It’s rare and I’m almost certain that I’m the only person in the world with my name. That’s not why I kept it though! I kept my own name because of all of the reasons in this article and then some. I too am a feminist, as is my husband. The point of feminism is women having equal rights to men, so if you choose to change your name then that’s your choice! Your mother shouldn’t be making you feel bad about it. Hopefully she’s just keeping you informed. Mind you, if I had a daughter I’d want her to keep her given name too! Good luck.

Why not just sit on it for a few months? Or years?  You won’t turn into a pumpkin after your wedding day if you haven’t decided yet.
