I would suggest dropping by a Furla outlet store. Some of their bags are really fantastic, never go out of style, and you can get a great price at an outlet location. A mid-size bag that looks good empty or full is definitely possible. The exact size that will be best for you will depend on your height, weight, and the largest item you need to fit into it on a regular basis.

I would strongly suggest leather for the most classic and durable look. Second to this would be canvas. I would really not recommend PVC. For a timeless, sophisticated look that goes with anything, I would keep to bags that are a neutral color and that don’t have prominent labels on them.

I’m a huge fan of Brighton bags.  The leather bags hold up really well (and they will clean/recondition them annually for free).

Under $200 would be tricky there though, especially for anything with some size to it.  This is what I’m currently carrying and it was $320.  They definitely have a good variety between $200-$300 if you’re willing to spend a little more.

I just got one from coachfactory, com for my birthday

they are having a 50% off sale that I think ends today so under $200 is very doable at the moment

@LucyLaLa:  weird, I got the email this morning. They are ALWAYS having sales so it might be worth it to wait a week or so. I haven’t gotten mine yet, I made my dh pick one and it’s in the closet, hiding until tomorrow. I know I’ll like it because I gave him about 12 to pick from that I loved.

Darn, I just double checked, the sale ended at noon today

@dlbaqua:  How did I have no idea about Coachfactory.com???  I just registered that way I will be notified for a future sale.  Hopefully I’ll be invited to a sale just in time for a new spring purse.  :):)

I used to be a BIG buyer of Coach bags….but quite honestly, the prices keep going up while the quality keeps going down.

So….I switched brands.  I decided (since I like to carry a new purse every few months) to change to a more modestly priced bag.  I have now officially changed to Tignanello brand.  They have a good range of bags– all leather and some have rather nice embellishments.  I think I bought my last two on QVC, and one on Amazon.  Zappos also carries the brand…and posts videos too of the purses so you get more of a sense of the size.  The Tignanello bags range from $80-$250 but the purses I buy are usually around the $125 mark.
