From my own experience, prongs can come loose with wear. It doesn’t necessarily mean the stone wasn’t set properly although I’m sure it’s possible. I had a trillion side stone fall out of my ring one time (luckily the stone was stuck to my sweater so I didn’t have to replace it.)  A 3 prong setting like in your photo is risky I think, if any of those prongs is slightly loose or gets bumped there’s nothing holding the stone in place. Wherever you get the ring from I’d take it to a local jeweler to inspect regularly

I am not sure where you are located and I do not know if they design without an inperson consult. However, the gemologist who helped me pick out my stone and design my ring discussed this exact issue with me. Regarding some of the Pinterest rings I was showing him to give him ideas on what I like. He, or his team, designed a ring for me that is secure and just as beautiful as those tiny banded Pinterest worthy rings. Gold’n Treasures in St. Paul, MN is where I went. Todd, the owner, was recommended to us through a friend of ours who worked with him.

Do not go with Zhedora if you want something quality she was an absolute nughtmare for me. Maybe she has a lot of people happy with her preset (although I’ve heard of people having stones fall out of those as well). She does give herself fake reviews on other sites too. Even though I’ve had my ring and gotten married I still get fired up at her because for almost 2 years of being engaged I didn’t have my ring becasue she initially took so long and then it was awful and so she tried to redo it, did a terrible job and took forwver and then we had to try and then our money was tied up with her so we couldn’t get it done elsewhere and by the time we finally got the money back we were only a couple months out from our wedding. We had to do a chargeback with the credit card because she fought the refund.

David Klass however did an amazing job and quickly because he knew we were in a time crunch. He was a little more expensive but still cheaper than we would have paid to buy a ring from a jewelry store and he let me send in some old rings and get gold credit. I was also able to get the price down with him by buying the stones seperately although he does source them as well.

Here’s some photo’s of Zhedora’s “quality work”. The first one she sent us as you can see the center stone is pretty crooked and side stones were falling out before we even took it out of the box and the wedding band doesn’t even fit against the ring. Even my ring aloof husband immediately knew it was poor quality when he opened it:

The second one actually broke almost immediately and was the ugliest ring I’d ever seen in my life and yet again the wedding band did not fit againts the engagement ring. She sent all CADs in pieces instead of being able to see how it would look all together (and took months to do that each time) so I wasn’t able to even tell if they were right and I was just so desperate to get my ring. Here’s that steaming pile of WTF:

And when it broke which she said I did on purpose just to slander her (because I’m so strong I can break a solid gold ring with my fingers) when in fact a jeweler told me that she’d cold soldered it on.

And then I went to David Klass. He gave me CADs of the ring (put together!) in a day. I tweaked it a little because I’d changed my mind about a couple things and then he sent me a plastic model so I could REALLY see if it was right. I changed one tiny thing that literally only I will ever notice and my then fiance sent him the center stone (I had already sent in the side stones and my old rings for gold credit). Only after he had finished the ring and sent me a video of the finished product did we have to pay him anything. He overnighted it to us as soon as we paid. I’ve been wearing it non-stop for about 7 months, not a single stone has come loose and every time I’ve taken it to get cleaned and checked the jeweler has commented on what good quality is was. David Klass is seriously the way to go, the way he handled it made my nervouse wreck self feel so so much better:

ninastarsong :  Thank you, I’m so in love with it. The little circles in between the prongs and the arches on the other sides are replicas of what was in between my mom and grandmother’s rings and he nailed it. I was a picky customer but anyone would have been upset by the junk Zhedora sent me. I always jump at the chance to save someone else the heartache of hiring her now. I really liked that DK didn’t charge until you could see what you were buying, that was a big selling point for me. Here’s my ring with my nails done laughingIMG_20180530_175810

ninastarsong :  I haven’t purchased fine jewelry from any Etsy vendors, so I can’t give an opinion or recommendation on them. But I have worked with David Klass three times so far. It’s been a great experience each time, and he has created beautiful pieces for me. Two of my rings are very detailed settings based on my own rather weird ideas, and he nailed both of those. I enjoyed working with him each time, and I will always go back to him for custom pieces if I am able to. (And if he will take the job — ha, ha!)

The one caveat I will add, though, is that there are times when communication can lag. There are times when you may have to send multiple emails and/or call him. (I’m not sure if calling is an option for you, since you live in France.) I’ve never called because I hate talking on the phone. But I have peppered him with emails at times. I think he stays pretty busy, which can mean a wide variety of times between starting a project and completing it. But he might be able to give you an estimate on how long it might take for your ring.
