My fiance and I want to go to Mexico for our honeymoon from March 29-April 6. We want to stay at an all inclusve resort and would like to keep the resort and airfare from San Fran Intl airport at $3500 or less.
Any recommendations? If you’ve been to Mexico what activities did you do? And for those with fair skin (sunburn prone skin) did you burn badly or just lather in sunscreen. Being a redhead definitely has its downfalls, I live like a vampire. haha.

My favorite spot in Mexico is Isla Mujeres but I don’t know what the cost would be for an all-inclusive because I just stayed at a regular hotel. They have great beaches, snorkeling and a sea turtle sanctuary. We checked out some Mayan ruins on the main penisula before we took the ferry to Isla Mujeres but that was a few years ago. Since you’ll be coming from the West Coast, Cabo and Puerta Vallarta might be easier/quicker to get to.
When I’ve been to Mexico (late spring – summer) the sun is pretty intense – definitely lather up the sunscreen, maybe even invest in cute beach hat and make sure to spend some time under the umbrella

@Janaic88: We went to Excellence Cancun last year… it might be a bit out of your price range, but we definitely enjoyed it. We flew from Canada though so you might want to check on prices if it’s a bit cheaper from where you’re at.
I’m very fair skinned and I just lathered on the SPF 60 and stayed under the umbrella a lot of the time. Before I went outside I’d put on the normal cream formula (waterproof) all over my body, and then the face stuff (also SPF 60) on my face/neck. We’d take a waterproof spray version with us to the beach/pool and I’d reapply every few hours.. more if I got wet. I managed to avoid getting sunburned. One tip I learned from my first trip to Mexico a few years back was to rub sunscreen up into your hairline!! I had an interesting sunburn that took forever to totally fade lol.
As long as you’re careful, you’ll be fine!
As far as activities go, there’s lots to do.. you can go kayaking, windsurfing.. take a catamaran out… go deep sea fishing (I do not recommend – many people got sea sick and we did not catch anything), there’s excursions you can do to the ruins and zip lining places, waterparks, etc. Or just hang out at the beach/pool – that’s typically what we did!

We went to Grand Palladium Resort. It was 7 nights 8 days, including airfare. Completely all inclusive for $2500!!! It was the best time of our lives, so much to do on the resort, beautiful SANDY beaches… We want to go back 🙂 It’s in Riviera Maya.

Akumal is probably my favorite place to go in Mexico.
It’s Mayan for “place of the sea turtles.” You can swim off shore and find them along with sting rays and coral.
There is a fantastic bar there, La Buena Vida, where you can sit in a palm tree overlooking the ocean, and get beer from buckets you send down.
There’s Mayan ruins a short Collectivo ride away. Playa Del Carmen is another short Collectivo ride away.
There’s caves, cenotes, ziplining, jungle ATVing, and national parks everywhere.

@darciebee: That’s what I was told. So, I’m buying lots of big, cute hats and gallons of sunscreen!
@canarydiamond: Cool! I ALWAYS forget to put sunscreen on my hairline and I always complain when it gets burnt! LOL. I’m really going to try to stay on top of the sunscreen. All of those activites sounds like fun! I want to do the dolphin one, it looks like fun!
@RoyalLime: WOW!! Good deal!
@BeachBride2014: That’s good to know! Thanks so much!
We actually booked it last nght. We ended up spending $4k for 8 nights in a resort in Cabo San Lucas. It’s all inclusive with airfare. I think we got a pretty good deal. Thanks for replying guys!
One more question, for those of you that did the activities did you purchase them before you left or once you got there? What do you recommend?

@Janaic88: We did both actually. We booked through Apple Vacations. We scheduled and paid for deep sea fishing on our own before the trip, the other excursions we booked through Apple right at our resort. It was cheaper and we got deals for booking a couple.

I booked my excursions at the resort. Nothing filled up and we were able to get exactly what we wanted. When I’ve gone on cruises, I’ve booked everything before hand. But all-inclusives are so much easier!
Make sure you haggle the price!

@RoyalLime: Awesome! My then-husband wants to do the deep sea fishing and I’m all about fishing but not on the ocean. LOL. So, you got a discount because you booked more than one activity? Sweet!
@BeachBride2014: Ohhh, didn’t know you could haggle with them! Good to know!

@Janaic88: Uh, I wouldn’t suggest you going on the fishing trip with him… I literally threw up the second we left the channel and for the entire 4 hours!!! It was HORRIBLE!!! We got discounts because we booked multiple excursions through Apple when we were at the resort. They have reps right in the lobby. It is all very easy 🙂
