So. Darling Husband and I moved into our new house last Sept (2011) and we’re putting our own touches on each room step by step as finances allow. Our master bedroom is great, i love the colour and the bedroom set. It’s a pretty big size, and i’m finding it INCREDIBLY difficult to “finish”. I feel like there is so much mising. Artwork? if yes, where? A big dressing mirror in a corner perhaps?? Another dresser in the corner? HELP!!!
What would you guys do? Fake plants!? Art?! A trim, design ? We are thinking maybe a small TV on the wall at the end of the bed, but i can’t help but feel like the room is so “empty” still. Thoughts, advice, input?!
Send help. Artistically challenged (except for the hand made D&S above the bed, i did do that LOL)
Will take any and all advice, suggestions, thoughts!

I like to slowly collect art that speaks to me and then display it around the house. I have prints that I bought on various trips that are particularly special to me.
You could do something like what I do. It would mean that your room would be bare initially, but slowly it would fill up.

How about some chairs by the window?

Your bedroom looks beautiful! Very soothing:) I agree with the chair idea! Maybe a comfortable overstuffed reading chair with a little table?

I really like where you’re going with this room. The wall color is lovely. Three things jumped out to me right off the batt.
1. I would add a crown molding. It is very easy to install yourself, not very expensive and would add a nice finish to the room.
2. Put an upholstered chair in a fun and punchy pattern in the corner by the window with a little side table and lamp. Make it like it’s own little reading nook. Definitly add some color to the room. right now it’s looking very gray.
3. Change the curtains and the way they are hung. Again I would go for a fun color or a very light color. Hang them higher and wider. It will add more drama to the room and make your window look a lot larger.

Your room looks beautiful. I feel that it needs some softening, as you have a lot of straight lines. A chair and table with a plant and maybe a floor lamp in the corner would be good. Depending on the time of day and sun light, it might be a nice place for a quiet read.

You have a great start. My suggestions:
-add an area rug under the bed
– hang a chandelier over the bed- you can swag it from your existing outlet if you don’t want to move the receptacle
-consider a bench at the foot of the bed- use a different wood than the rest of the firniture
– get larger art pieces for the wall- move the D&S signs over to the small wall next to the window
– get taller lamps- the bottom edge of the shade on bedside lamps should be at shoulder height so that the light hits the right spot f you are sitting up in bed reading
– place something under the window- a large bamboo box ?
-get a larger duvet or comforter so it comes down further on the bed

Also I think some new decorative pillows and a blanket at the end of the bed would look nice.

I think your bedroom furniture is gorgeous and the wall color is great!!! You really don’t have to change much. Instead of having the bed spread and drapes match the wall, why don’t you change those to white. A beautiful sheer white curtain or white comfy comforter…and maybe add a splash of color. You don’t need much really! Here are some ideas….
Change to sheer white curtains and mirror on wall, bring in some light.
A pop of color…

My first thought was rug, chairs, mirrors, and a little pop of color. Cute room!

first I LOOOVE this bedroom. It looks so relaxing! I WISH my room looked this good!
I would also think about adding a chair in the corner next to the window or tall greenery.
I also like the hanging light in the room but I think might need something a bit larger or even a ceiling fan would look nice and be functional

A storage bench at the end of the bed in a color other than white would be nice!
Also a rug with a pattern or design would help fill up the room with a nice feel!
Also a table & chair or just a nice sized chair by the window would be lovely!
A table like this with a small rocking chair would be beautiful:
or with something like this:

@Lemma: Love this idea! Would actually be nice to get some of our pics blown up/framed to fill up some of the walls. Would just have to plan where to put them!
@Meowkers: Thanks for all the tips! I NEVER thought of crown moulding – that would actually be an awesome idea. Definitely soemthing that would be a quick addition to the room and add some nice detail. Thank you!!
@Sweet.Sugar.Rose: The area rug is a great idea. THe only thing stopping us so far from getting one is the price 🙁 I think if we found one that was big enough and for a good price we’d go for it, but man – they are expensive! Maybe i’ll get lucky and stumble across one that worked for a great price 😉
Seems like the general consensus is a window seat type idea, either with chairs/table/tall lamp or soemthing to that affect. It is definitely that window area that needs some assistance.
What are your thoughts on the possibility of doing built in shelves on either side of the window, and installing a window/bench seat below? Something to put pictures on, decorative items etc. Too much work? Too much in general?
Might be time to look at what Ikea has for reading chairs/tables and maybe a nice tall plant in the corner to brighten it up.
Thanks so much bees- keep the ideas coming!
PS. We have about 4 sets of bed sheets – this is our darkest. We have a nice Nautica set in Navy that is gorgeous as well as a Calvin Klein metallic silver/purple colour that brightens the room up. Doesn’t help that these pics were taken at night – in the day light it’s quite bright!! Thanks again for the tips, i’m loving all the suggestions!!!!

I agree with most of the ladies regarding adding a seating area near the windows and a small table and also adding a bench at the foot of the bed. Maybe adding some type of natural element. Something unique that you could hang on one of the walls. Maybe a piece of drift wood or a funky shaped branch above the bed (find one outside and it would be less expensive)
Also maybe adding simple/plain shelves with black and white photos and different accessories. You have great wall space and that would help make it feel more personal and allow you to add pops of color. ps– I love your bed frame!
