How about ribbon around the opening to cover up the imperfections in the cutting job?

I think the CARDS looks fine, perhaps thicker letters? You can get silver tape and tape it along the edges of the slot!

As a pp has already suggested, use ribbon aorund the slot to make the edges appear straight. Make sure you use a color that will blend in with the color of the materials in your box. Do not use any of the colors in your “Card” sign no matter what that ends up to be. You want the sign to be the focus, not the slot.

Without knowing the theme of your wedding, usually I like multicoloured letters, but I don’t think it works with this card box.  I might use one solid colour for the letters, and then have a ribbon matching your accent colours.  I also agree that you should use ribbon or a nice tape to go over the slot.

I would suggest painting the box in your main color. Adding ribbon around the slit  and make flags instead with letter on them. (possibly dark navy blue for the box)

@smdcontreras: omg this banner would be perfect.

Can you use a metal nail file to even out the edges of the slot and then outline the slot with dark brown ribbon? That could make it be less of a focus.

I had the same issue with my card box, and I ended up getting brown cord at Michaels in the ribbon section that did the job really well.  You could try hemp or twine to give it more of a rustic/birdhouse feel.

@redhead46: you could also go to the dollar store and buy one bamboo placemat. Take it apart and use the bamboo to frame your slot.

I prefer the second sign but only you know what will look best with the rest of your decor.
