It doesn’t matter if they’re the same lengths.  Your mom’s dress is beautiful, just have her jazz it up with some jewelry. The colour doesn’t matter.

I feel like the lengths should match but the colors do not matter. Length is a good indication of how formal, so if MOG is in a long dress your mom should be too. I like the beige dress a lot!

@MLDoddie:  what length are your Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses? if they’re short, your mom should keep her dress.

On the one hand, your FMIL’s dress is longer, but I feel like because its fun and flirty and flowy, your mother’s gorgeous lace dress still feels formal too! I think they are both gorgeous and both appropriate! Just reassure your mom. Ask your Future Mother-In-Law what shoes and jewelry she is wearing, and if it will make your mom feel better, have her buy or wear stuff that’s a little “more”.

I really love your Mom’s dress.  I know what you mean about how she may feel awkward with a short dress if everyone else is in long dresses.  I’d run it by your mom, she might not care at all, or just may want a nice piece of jewelry to jazz up her dress.

The dress she has is totally fine! Get her some FAB shoes, necklace & a blingy clutch bag and she’ll be a knockout : )

Since it sounds like you’re leaning toward adding a necklace, maybe something classy like this? With some pearl studs and maybe a pearl bracelet (depending how much jewelery she wants to wear). What color/style shoes is she wearing?

I feel like women wearing those two dresses are not going to the same event.  The shorter dress is more suited for a day wedding that’s semi formal to formal while the long dress is suited for an evening wedding that’s formal to black tie. Also the short one is much more conservative than the long one Which one are you having?

I think your mom does run the risk of feeling underdressed because the MOG and BMs will be more dressed up than she is.  I may suggest taking a look around for another dress that may be a little dressier.

@MLDoddie: I just found it on Google images & I didn’t realize it was so expensive! http://www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/ecatalogue/2012/important-jewels-n08881/lot.351.esthl.html I’m so sorry 🙁 I found a couple others that are still beautiful but more affordable. Here are the links:

I just want to add that I think that the fabric & color of your mom’s dress looks more formal to me than the BMs & your Future Mother-In-Law. Brighter colors tend to seem more “fun” to me, rather than formal. I think your mom will be absolutely beautiful & should have no reason to feel awkward or strange 🙂

If they both look great in their dresses then all is well! Being two different lengths doesn’t matter. I would hope that Future Mother-In-Law is going to keep it pretty toned down jewelry wise, which allows your Mum to go all out! The dresses can’t really be compared as one is quite informal and bright, and the other quite formal.
