I’ve been to Burlington and Milwaukee. I think Burlington would have more to do. There’s a lot of hills to hike around, a waterfront, and since it’s a college town, there would be stuff to do at night. (eta-and it’s quite pretty too!)  There is also a central downtown area with cute little diners and whatnot.  Milwaukee does have these huge domes… they’re like greenhouses I guess.  They put on concerts there and stuff.  But I can’t think of much else you could do there.  You might be able to tour a brewery?  It’s just not a real exciting place though… maybe some interesting polish food?  It’s mostly pretty industrial though, and it’s under 10 feet of snow most the time, so the outdoor sort of stuff is not exactly plentiful.  Madison might be an interesting place in Wisconsin, since it’s a college town. Might have more of what you’re looking for in terms of restaurants and nightlife.

I dream of visiting Vermont, so I voted for that!

I lived in Milwaukee for 6 years, so I didn’t choose that just because it’s not really a “vacation” spot to me, but it is a really neat city. I chose Maine for your poll b/c I want to go there.

But if you end up going to Milwaukee, when would you go? There are tons of random little festivals (both for food and music) all summer that are pretty fun. The architecture around town is pretty cool if you are into that. It used to be a manufacturing-heavy city, but has cleaned up a lot in recent years. The brewery tours are awesome (I recommend Lakefront Brewery or Sprecher), and although I’m a Chicago Cubs fan, I now have a soft spot for the Milwaukee Brewers b/c it’s so fun to tailgate at their stadium. There’s plenty of nightlife, it’s not on the same level as Chicago (i.e. bars close between 1-2am rather than 4am) but it’s good enough. The Art Museum (Calatrava) is pretty cool too. AH ok now I miss Milwaukee 🙂

ETA: if you’re flying, I’ve rarely had any problems with the Milwaukee airport. They are pretty streamlined there, and pretty small, so you can probably get to the airport within an hour of your flight and have no problem.

Burlington is pretty!  I’ve never been to the other two, and haven’t checked out any of the nightlife there (usually go with my Grandpa who lives in VT), but since @Flippy2013:  says there is nightlife, I’d go for it!

I’ve always really wanted to go to Maine for a vacation.

But I hear really great things about Portland too.

i just got back from milwaukee. love me some wisconsin but that was the WORST wisconsin town i have EVERRRRR been too. oofta. i dont know how my expectations got so high but i was majorly let down! we were there for 5 days… id say it was about 4 days and 10 hours too long. we were there for Fiance annual work convention for Northwestern Mutual, so we were in town with about 11,000 others. i did enjoy the zoo because they had elephants <3 <3 <3 but didnt think it was much bigger or better than the MN zoo. i was suprised to find out that i liked minneapolis over milwaukee. havent been to the other two you mentioned, tho i hear wonderful things about maine! thats my vote 🙂
