Have you tried on that shape with more of a continuous material from top to bottom though? Sometimes the tulle bottoms have the effect of shortening you because of the way it cuts you off. By continuous material I mean something like this

I’m only 5’0 and although I was standing on the pedestal in that last one, the dress was only a couple inches long.

I think the mermaid shape looks great on you–you have great hourglass curves! I say get the dress YOU love. You said many of these aren’t in your size, so they are all going to look a little ‘off’ until you get the dress that fits you perfectly. You can also play around with crinoline. A larger bottom on a mermaid might help balance out your bust a bit.

You’ve said many other silhouettes don’t look good on you. I am curious–have you tried a drop waisted ballgown? That might look nice, and there are a lot of different “lengths” of dropped waists, so one that hits on the right spot might be very flattering.

But hey, I think the mermaids look fantastic on you. Get YOUR dream dress!

steph5565:  The first one is actually not me, that’s why it looks so good, lol. It’s a Pronovias though!

I think the first one of those two dresses you just posted looks very flattering, but that’s probably because it fits you better than the second. You’re right, the second one is hard to visualize because the sample isn’t your size, but I think once it’s your size, it’d also be a knockout! Personally I think both of those elongate your body a bit more than the first set of pics you posted. But, trust your gut!!

I love the Watters dress! The only thing that makes me not 100% love it is that I feel as if the bottom is not as full as it should be. Have you thought about trying it on will a mermaid slip underneath that will add a little more volume? I feel like it could help emphasize your hourglass shape even better!

It is a great style on you and very flattering to your figure. The first dress looks the best out of these photos because it appears to be more your size and the best fit. The others have creases and folds that won’t be there if it were the right size.

I do agree that having the cutoff at the knee can make your legs looks shorter and the continuous style is more classic and beautiful. Ultimately, you will look good in any one of them so whichever you love most should be what you get.
