Hello everyone! So bf and I have decided on a diamond, which the bf very generously got. Its almost a 1ct oval cut diamond, and its gorgeous! I’ve known since we bought the stone that I wanted it set in a halo, but at the moment the site we bought the diamond from only had a simple halo, with a plain band. So yesterday my bf comes home and tells me he saw a new halo on the site, which is basically only different in the fact that it has pave diamonds on the shank–and its only a $25 difference in cost. So now we’re thrown off, and don’t know which halo to pick, which brings me to your girls to decide! So without further ado, here are the options: (the round would be customized for an oval)
What do you ladies think? Why should I got with the one you voted for? Thanks in advance!

Sorry pics are humongous! This is the first time I’ve posted pics on the site! Also, the halo should have the same effect as the bottom picture, I think the first image is just a rendering, instead of a real life pic like the bottom image. Thanks again!

I like the first one better, but maybe it’s just because the band looks a bit like my ring and I’m partial!
I do think the second one looks a little too plain next to the stone. So I voted number 1!

@Imean: I personally LOVE halos with plain bands… I think it makes the center stand out more.

My Engagement Ring is your first choice, with an oval stone and i LOVE it. Mines not a diamond but i get so many compliments on it, i think oval and halo are a wonderful combination!!

There are lots of threads with halo rings. I suggest you look at them to see real rings on ladies’ fingers.
Have you thought about what kind of wedding band you would like?
If you would like a diamond band, and get the first setting (which is beautiful) then you will see all diamonds.
If you get a diamond band with the second setting, it will give you the look of two separate rings. Some people like that look over the all-diamond look.
I had my diamond reset recently into a setting like #2 – halo with plain band. I already had a diamond wedding band and I just liked the look of the plain band better with the diamond band. Also, in my case, I was working with a budget and to get a setting like the first with diamonds down the sides would have been out of budget for me.
Neither is the wrong choice. Both offer beautiful looks.

I like the first one, but I’m partial since I have something similar. Go with the first one for more bling and an antique look.

This picture is from BrilliantEarth.com. It shows a round halo with a plain band but it gives you a real picture of what I was describing above. My pictures are pretty bad otherwise I would show you mine.

I have an oval diamond in a halo setting and I love it! I don’t have any pics with me at work, but once i saw it I was in love! I have the Tacori 2620 OV (which was a little pricey but the only setting we could seem to find without going custom) and it is beautiful! it is very similar to the 2nd picture only with pave on the band too! I think the halo definitely adds to the beauty of the oval. Good luck choosing!

#2 all the way! I have that James Allen setting in round cut, and I love it! The elevated stone looks really cool, and you can wear it with any band. The plain shank is more comfortable and lower maintenance than a pave shank would be. I think the plain shank is a little more classic, and gives you the best of both worlds of a halo and solitaire. The band on that ring is also really skinny and dainty. I also think the plain shank will hold up better over time. Of course, I’m biased, but ultimately choose what makes your heart sing. Whatever you choose, it’ll be a gorgeous ring.
I don’t know if this’ll be helpful to you or not, but here’s a pic of my ring.

I’d like to start by saying how much I envy you haha
I want an oval and actually looked at the second setting. I love it. So that’s what I voted for. I like the effect the pave halo has next to the oval with a plain band in real life. The way it sparkles is just so neat!
