Ok Bees, so I am seriously fretting over what color granite to pick. Our cabinets will be white and our floors will be very very dark hardwood. The walls are going to be a very light turquoise – sea foam color, with similar colored backsplash. I just cannot decide what color granite to get!

Do you have a choice of getting quartz instead of granite? I LOVE this color quartz with white cabinets. It looks like Carrera Marble but it’s much more durable and less expensive.

@MissSandyShore: I would def suggest getting something neutral b/c if you decide to change your wall color that way the granite would sorta match anything
maybe a color like this? It would match with your dark floors and I think it is neutral enough that it would match with your walls as well. I wouldn’t try to match the granite directly up with the paint b/c you might change your mind about the paint in the future.

The lighter the granite, the more often it needs to be re-sealed. If upkeep is a factor in your decision, remember that. Probably any granite with brown details will work well with the floors and wall color you chose. We have granite in our condo/townhouse, and I really wish we had quartz! Less upkeep and much more modern looking.

My initial thought was a light grey or beige-ish color too but I worry that with the light cabinets it will look washed out and too… blah. Although those pictures do look gorgeous!! Hmm decisions, decisions.

I personally like darker countertops with white cabinets. The contrast makes it pop, and if you get a really light color your kitchen will be too white, almost sterile looking. That’s must my opinion, though, I know a lot of people like that look, so it’s not objectively bad, just not my taste

I personally love dark gray or very very deep green (that can look almost black from far away) granite. As PP have said…lighter granite is more upkeep and I also just love contrasts, so with white cabinets I’d want darker countertops personally

@MissSandyShore: Do you have a short list? I think black would look stunning with that combo.

Our first choice was dark blue but everything we’ve seen so far looks like an 80s disaster! I can picture it perfectly in my head but I’m not sure if it exists in real life. I think we’ll keep looking for the perfect dark blue, but I wanted to get some other ideas in case we can’t find what we are looking for.

I think a black granite would look great with your white cabinets and dark floors, but a gold/beige color would really compliment the turquoise hue of your walls. There’s a cute granite called “black galaxy” that is basically black with an almost golden flecked iridescent effect that would probably look terrific.

Black for sure. It will break up all the lightness. We have maple cabinets and black tile floor with ubatuba granite – ubatuba’s a bit dated now, but black would be awesome.

Black is a pain in the rear to keep clean. See if you can find antique brown granite in a leathered or honed finish. It won’t show the water spots like a polished granite, and it’s not as harsh as black. Plus it would look great with dark wood floors and turquoise walls, but is neutral enough that you could change your wallcolor in the future.

that sounds like my absolute dream kitchen color scheme. and in that dream kitchen I have dark countertops to match the dark floors.

We have white cabinets with dark hardwood floors and went with “superwhite” granite. Its mostly gray and looks the closest to marble But is not as light. I so badly wanted marble countertops but they are just not practical as they etch easily bc marble is a porous stone. this pic is from google images i will take some good pics of our kitchen tomorrow in daylight and post if you are interested in seeing! I loove my kitchen!
