Hello. I am torn between two dresses and need some expert bee advice. My sister and mom are of no help in this matter. I am looking to alter either dress to make it more mermaidy and show off my slim hips. I have a boyish figure and really no curves. I did try on this number by House of Wu, from their Private Collection, style # 18780.The The sample was many sizes too small, so I couldn’t zip it up and twirl around . I would definitely remove the bow in the back. It think this model has been seriously photoshopped in the waist. She looks a bit abnormal. I think the diagonal rouching might give me a little more curvy look. Of course, I was not allowed to take pictures of this dress on me. Only by lots of detective work did I found out the maker and style of this dress. I hate those secret “this is a special dress made only for this shop” kinda dress. This dress could be taken in on the side seams below the hips and the princess seams under each bum cheek to make it more mermaidy.
Dress # 2 is by House of Wu also, but it is a Jacquelin Exclusive #19858. I love the beaded belt and that the neckline is not so sweethearty. I think I look better in the soft sweetheart . Anyway, I have not, nor can I try on this dress in person. It is not located in my state. If you go to Jacquelinexclusive.com and click on the Runway show link on the top of the page you can view their runway show. This dress is in the middle of the show. I love the top and sparkle on this one better, but I am concerned about trying to make it more mermaidy. I would love to remove the whole blob of pleats on the one hip. From the online pictures and runway show there are no seams down the back of the dress. There must be side seams in that blob of pleats and maybe down the other hip as well. Doable to alter into a mermaid? Also, has anyone seen any Jacquelin Exclusive dresses in person. Does their beading look nice or cheesy/cheap? I would have to take a leap of faith and order this one online sight unseen. I am comforted by the fact that I have seen a House of Wu dress in person. Am I wrong to assume since they are the same parent company and same price range that their quality would be similar?
Thanks for all your help.
