Hey all! We are doing our engagement pix in about a month at Botantical Gardens in the Bronx, NY (where we got engaged). I’m trying to think of a creative Save the Date to do. I really love the use of props. Help me think of something creative!
And pleaseee post your creative Save the Dates also!

We’re using football jerseys. Mine says SAVE 6 and his says THE DATE 7. We met in high school, he was the quarterback, I was a cheerleader, and my dad the coach. We are having out date put on the scoreboard and having pics taken on our high school field with the sites and scoreboard. There’s tons of neat ideas on pintrest if you search save the date!

@NYBride23: I think it might be cute if you drew a calendar of your wedding month on white poster board with a big fat heart over the date, then that’ve the photographwrists the text “save the date” in the corner

i saw one on a pinterest board that was so cute, but now i can’t find it – but basically it’s kind of an action photo of the couple standing/leaning over a bridge barely holding onto a prop that’s about to fall over the bridge. The prop? Large wooden painted numbers held together (like “5.28.14”) and their hands are holding/reaching out for it – and a text bubble has her saying “Save the Date!” Get it? They are trying to actually ‘save’ the date. I thought it was so cute and clever!
My STD for my destination wedding was a video one I emailed out – (I can edit with iMovie on my Mac computer). I found some website that teenyboppers use to make avatars and I used that to make mini-animated versions of me and my fiance. It was quite a bit of work but really fun and it didn’t cost me a cent! 🙂 You can see it here: http://youtu.be/VfW4WrukZYs

@NYBride23: take a beautiful blanket with you. Also take a classic picnic basket, wine bottle, flowers, and most importantly… FLOWER PETALS… then arrange the petals in the numbers for the date of your wedding and have the shots done in multiple finishes… full color, sepia, black and white, or choose one color to highlight in the photos. Very classy, romantic look. Shoot with you two in a variety of poses or just enjoying talking to each other to get as natural a look as possible. Perhaps even take some crackers to feed each other, sharing the special moments in a mini picnic in the gardens.
I also like the signs where She holds: He asked… and He holds: … and she said yes
Or he holds: I stole her heart and she holds: Now I’m stealing his last name (if you are going to take his name, not all brides do)
or get a rustic 6 panel window and paint your message in the window pains with window chalk… across the top 3 panels put Save The Date (one word in each panel) then in the bottom 3 panels put month, day, year (each one in its own panel)
Take a photo next to a large tree and have the photographer photoshop a tree caarving in… your initials such as: N+K in a heart with an arrow through it and the date underneath (this would be cute with you two leaning against the tree or having a picnic at the base utilizing the blanket/picnic props again
Balloons with the date on them work as well… using the wording “Hold on to” rather than save the date
Getting parasols and putting the date on those is a neat prop, too. You could get them in your wedding colors to start the color theme already for the whole event and tie it all together.
Hope those help! Just have fun with it. Your photographer might even have some fun ideas for you as well as they are many times inspired by the environment and your personalities as they shoot. Just go with it and see what magic you can make.
