I want to respond to the poll, but I feel like I would have to know the money side of it. How much is the deposit and the dress? Would you save a lot of money if you gave up the deposit and got a different dress?

If you really love the dress, keep it.  But if you’re going for something informal, fun and more Vegas style, then try a short 50s style dress.

wow tough call…is there anyway they will let you transfer that amount to a different dress?

I dont see how you could really dress it up, unless you added a big sparkly sash maybe? I’ve seen full blown ballgowns in vegas weddings and they look awesome so I think you could dress it up.

Keep in mind though if you pay it off and resell it you will probably only get 50% of what you paid IF that, and then you have to find a buyer too. I just sold a dress that was a first purchase , original price was $620ish, sold it for $350 and it was brand new never worn…also took 4+ months to sell.

I canceled my big wedding but I stuck with my dress (I did love it enough to buy it).  I’m using it at the small ceremony and getting my money’s worth.  Then I’m going to have a photoshoot after the wedding around the beach, etc. so I can get some more use out of it.  60% deposit on a really, really expensive dress….I wasn’t about to forfeit that much money and get nothing out of it.

@Shannanicorn:  Yeah!  I was going to add, cut off a good two feet from the bottom and put some crinoline underneath the whole thing.  Would make it into a party dress 🙂

I don’t think selling it via consignment or otherwise will be lucrative. I think if you’re going to try to get rid of it, you should just forfeit the deposit. (Unless you’re really, really confident you’ll get at least the $700 you haven’t yet paid when you sell it.)

That said, you could always use this dress for your ceremony and get a second “fun” dress for after the ceremony.

    Good luck!

@Shannanicorn:  That is a beautiful dress! Not sure how to change it or if you even should. I’m not also a Vegas bride, what are your plans?
