I’m having a custom three stone ring made, and I love this ring’s prongs and basket. I’m not sure what to call it. This is a screenshot from instagram, and I can’t find anything similar on the jeweler’s pinterest/website. I’m trying to find pics of something similar so I can show my jeweler for inspiration. My ring will have pear side stones so the shank will rise up to reach the pointy part. I don’t know if that will affect the design dramatically or not.

I’m no professional but that looks like a 3 stone cathedral setting! Looks like there’s some miligrain detailing around the inside of the setting as well.

rolypoly : Try googling images for “trellis cathedral” or “3 stone trellis” settings… I think that may be what you are looking for. Very pretty!

That ring is beautiful! Not an expert here either, but I would say it’s a combination of a trellis and basket setting.

rahkm : peachycactus : hmm, I agree that it’s a variation on a trellis setting. Most of the trellis settings I find don’t radiate from a central point like the example though. they look more like this:

bklyn18 : definitely cathedral, and I love that inner milgrain! trying to nail down the basket/prongs terminology because everything I search for brings up something different.

rolypoly : It’s a 3 stone trellis with a cathedral setting and some variations made by the designer (eg. smaller side stones and center stone set higher than in most 3 stone rings, the undergallery design).
The one you posted in your follow-up is a variation on the 3-stone trellis with 6 prongs around the center diamond. The second image you posted is also not the most common setting that comes up when I google “3 stone trellis” because most trellis center stones have 4 prongs and not 6.

anabee323 : you’re right, i grabbed one randomly and didn’t realize it was a 6 prong setting. but i felt that many trellis settings had the shank of the ring going up into the prongs, and my original photo doesn’t have that. i like how the prongs/basket radiate from a central point. Is there a name for that?
Another example of what I find when I google trellis settings, but that isn’t quite what I am trying to seek out:

I don’t know what it is called, but my ring is a similar style. Looking at the photos of shiny new rings has made me realise I really need to take mine in to be cleaned (embarrassing!) but here is a photo anyway in case it is helpful reference.

My ring looks like that too. I don’t know the name for the prongs radiating from the same spot but I overheard the jeweler refer to this style as “raised basket”… I’m pretty sure it’s not a variation of trellis tho.

This one is pretty simple but I used it to explain to my jeweler where I wanted my peek-a-boo diamonds placed. Sorry I no longer have the unmarked version on my phone.

mrsbluetomato : Thank you for posting this! My ring will be three stone but I suspect it may look similar ultimately, since I am also having engraving and milgrain put on the shank.
