Hi guys. we are working on the wording for our invitations, and it has us questioning what time we should start our ceremony and reception. Our venue requires us to be out at 11:30. We have our photographer for 7 hours, so he would arrive 1 hour before either way.
Ceremony starts at 3PM outdoors at same venue as reception. Cocktail hour follows til 5PM, at which point reception starts. Pros: more time dancing Cons: have to book hotel suite to get ready in night before ceremony to make sure we have enough time; sun may be stronger; people may leave earlier
Ceremony starts at 4PM, cocktail hour afterwards, reception starts at 6PM. Pros: don’t have to book hotel suite for 2 days; extra hour of sleep in the morning (lol); get photographer until later in the evening so def should get sunset pictures; less “early bird” dinner time. Cons: less dancing time, may feel rushed.
If you guys could tell me how long your receptions were or what your day of timeline was like, that would really help me!

@sleepyhead22: I like the new one a lot better! It’s pretty much the exact same as ours lol Dinner at 5 seems pretty early

- Wedding: July 2012 - Baltimore Museum of Industry
We had ceremony at 6PM (Friday wedding), cocktail hour at 6:30, reception started around 7:15, with meal served around 7:30. We had the venue until 11, and had an after party at the hotel bar. Was plenty of time for dancing- Darling Husband and I opened the reception with our first dance, then we did parent dances around 8, I think.

Thanks to everyone for your feedback! I think we are definitely leaning towards the new plan now.
@Astra: our ceremony will be about 20 min! Hopefully lol. We don’t want our guests to be outside in the potentially hot weather too long! Ahhh Yay for month twins! How are you doing with you planning? I feel like we have so much to do right now.

@sleepyhead22: I’m finally making some progress, Fiance is helping me plan otherwise I’d be way behind! lol We just chose our florist and DJ. *whew*
Now we have to buy our rings (we chose them, just haven’t pulled the trigger yet).
Mostly I need to diet!!!!! Hard to get out and exercise when it’s all snow around here.
I think your new plan sounds great. Having the sunset photos will be terrific, not to mention the extra hour of rest! 🙂

Ours is a Sunday, so we are starting earlier, but I like your second choice for the timeline!!
