They just may not like their food anymore. My cats do that. They LOVE one flavour, and then the next time they get it, they’ll walk away from it. It happens.

As for the litter box thing, I would keep an eye on that. If he seems to be straining or constipated, especially with his previous health issues, I would take him to the vet. Was his litter box clean?

I would worry because that’s just the way I am. My kitties are my babies. If it were me, I’d make a vet appointment. It can’t hurt.

That said, have there been any changes in your house recently? Overnight guest? New neighbors (if you share walls with your neighbors)? Change in your stress level that they may be sensing? Etc.? One of my kitties is very sensitive to any changes in the household and one of her stress responses is to eat less. Could this be the case in your house?

I would definitely take them to the vet asap. sometimes boy cats can get those crystals in their urine (not sure what the technical term for it is), but the litter box behavior is the most worrisome. maybe hes not eating because hes constipated & knows it wont come out, will make him have more pain. as for bailey, it may be that jack is the leader & bailey doesnt like to eat till he eats (my cats are like that–the boy always leads our little girl) & when she sees him acting weird, she acts weird as well. but id take jack ASAP. if he has kidney failure, that could be a huge, huge problem.

good luck & let us know what happens!!!!

@bimba:  not sure what brand of food you feed them, but you could always try the cheap deli stuff like friskies or whickers & see if that makes a difference–even if you put tuna on their food if they dont like the food it might not be enough to entice them
