I need some advice before I completely freak out. My wedding is only 43 days away and our ceremony site just cancelled. After not being able to get a permit for our original idea (Brooklyn Bridge Park) we found a beautiful alternative- the rooftop of the Fairfield Inn in Brooklyn. We signed a contract for a block of rooms as well as the “meeting space”, which is the rooftop. I have already sent out invitations and guests have started booking rooms. Today we were informed that the hotel will not be opening on schedule because they don’t have all the proper permits from the city. Now we are losing our ceremony site as well as our block of rooms. I know they have to honor the contract at another hotel owned by Marriott but I don’t think any of the other properties in the area even have a rooftop. What do I demand from Marriott? How do I inform all my guests of the change? How do I find something else with such short notice? Please help.

is the rooftop needed? i love rooftop weddings but marriott has some nice hotels. i would check out who they are deffering you to and then go from there. we had ours at a renaissance (owned by marriot) and i really loved the venue. they didnt have a rooftop but they had a beautiful courtyard right off our reception room with fire pits and christmas lights….obviously not all the hotels are the same, and im in NC. but its worth looking into…
do you have a wedding website? you can update your guests there?

The space doesn’t have to be a rooftop but I also don’t want them to stick us in a conference room more suitable for a power point presentation. The way they refer to it as a “meeting room” doesn’t account for the dramatic backdrop, which was the reason for our choosing that place. We are waiting to hear back from someone else at the company with an offer for our guest rooms but it seems they aren’t even sure about what to do for the ceremony site. I might send out a postcard to our guests as well as update the wedding website but none of that can happen until we actually have updated information. I am going crazy!
