I pretty much found my dress a month after being engaged, on etsy. I requested that the shop owner give me a fabric list, which she did very quickly. The seller specializes in purchasing vintage fabrics and crafting her dresses from them.
Fast forward to March this year. I made the decision to buy the dress, and requested some fabric swatches. She requested I send her my address and I did so quickly. I didn’t recieve a response from her. 2 weeks later I sent her a message. She told me that she had never sent them out, and that a pipe had burst in her shop causing her to lose fabrics. I was completely sympathetic. A week after she told me she would send them out, I contacted her and she said she sent them. So I waited and watched my mail. Another went by and nothing.
She didn’t respond messages; I asked if maybe she could just take a picture of the fabric? No response.
I went ahead and purchased the dress I desired, because I saw so many people giving her glowing reviews. I probably shouldn’t have done this, but I’m really in love with the gown. The next day she sent me a picture of the fabric, and I really loved it. I asked her if she thought it favored ivory more than white, and nothing….no response. Days later I told her I was sure it was beautiful and as long as it wasn’t starch white it would be fine. She hasn’t said anything since then. I’ve sent a couple of more messages making sure to space them out between weeks.
That was a month and a week ago. I still don’t have a dress. I don’t know if she’s even started on the dress. I don’t know if it’s being sent out. I don’t know where it is.
So, because she doesn’t have any “creation time” or whatever you call it I had to open a case against her stating “did not recieve dress” and now I’m thinking that I should just go ahead a request a refund and buy another
But I haven’t been able to find anything like the dress I love!
I am stressing out to an extreme degree, I’m already having to deal with my mom being sick on top of this so please help me beefriends! Have you guys seen anything similar to this dress?
If you guys wanna know who the shop is I can message it to you.

@DarthBetty: Ugh, I am so sorry. This is so not the kind of thing you should be stressing about! How unprofessional! It is a major pet peeve of mine when customer service goes by the wayside. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this all works out for you!

Thank you! I know that etsy can be a really positive experience. I bought my invitations from the best shop owner who was extremely responsive, and is even going to give us a discount on future purchases.

@DarthBetty: sorry that this is happening. please, keep us posted.

I’m sorry this happened to you!
Have you tried http://dollycouture.com/? They specialize in custom made, vintage style dresses. You could probably send them this picture and ask if they can make you a similar dress. I have no idea how long it would take but at least there would be no alterations.
They have real stores in NY and LA but since you are in GA, that probably isn’t any help. 🙂
I hope everything works out!

@DarthBetty: I would probably tell her that if you don’t hear from her within X days, then you’ll have no choice but to assume that she’s not working on your dress and you’ll file for a refund. Sounds like a lot of etsy and replica vendors are being money-grabby and taking on orders they can’t handle.
Being in the middle of “wedding season”, I know ALL the major vendors are swamped. I have bridesmaid dresses getting made at Fabulous U and they asked for a 2 week extension. I heard that Jasmines is taking a few days to a few weeks to answer emails and inquiries. So if you want one of them to replicate your dress, I would jump on it now.

Yikes yikes yikes! If I were you I would request a refund and buy a different dress; sounds like this seller has been really unresponsive and like you said, you have no idea at what stage the dress is at. I don’t know if this will help, but these websites might help you out in finding another dress:

Yeah, get a refund. Worst case scenario, that should be an easy dress to get custom made from somewhere – vintage patterns are everywhere for that style of dress.
I bought my dress with a similar vintage feel from Trashy Diva:
It’s very good quality, the gals were very nice (even sent me a fabric swatch so I can sew a longer skirt to go over it for my ceremony), it was inexpensive and it looks great on me! They have some jackets and boleros to match their dresses, and I’ve seen other brides wearing the dress/jacket/etc combos and they look so classy!
Good luck with your dress search!

Hmm, I re-read and saw that you’d like an exact dress. I did a quickie (very quick!) search for “Audrey Hepburn White Dress” (because that’s what your dress reminds me of!) and found this website:
I quickly read some reviews on the bee and on the web about the site, they aren’t terrible. I don’t really know anything about this site, so I am trying to be a bit cautious.
I would read more reviews about it, but I wanted to pass it along to you because many of these dresses are a similar silhouette to the one you loved.
Since you’re getting married in October, it might be nice to have the sleeves be a bolero, so that if you get hot you’re not trapped in them.
Anyway, like I said before – good luck!

I’m 99% sure that I recognize the vendor. If it is who I think it is, I bought a party dress there a few months ago and it is absolutely amazing. Even though they aren’t cheap I’m actually going to order another dress from her since I am so in love with the first one. She has been nothing but friendly and prompt in my dealings with her, so it is sort of surprising and disappointing that you’re having trouble with her. Try again to message her directly (their is a gmail on her website that is not an etsy messaging system) since her dresses are really pretty and worth it.

@LLemonDifficult: I was incredibly suprised to find this as well. She seems so amazing and is always very kind.
After opening the case against her, she responded after a week and 3 days. She gave a very long and detailed explination which made senese a part from the fact that she neglected to simply update me on what was occuring. I’m still sort of having a melt down. She said my dress is her top priority now so I’m hoping I will see the dress finished soon.
@BlueBelle0927: I love dollycouture! But they are wayyy too expensive for me. I only paid around 200 for my dress.
@Jen51287: Thank you anyway!
@Bazingau: Good point thank you! I’m thinking of ordering a back up dress, but I’m being super picky. I should probabyl just go all out and order a green dress.
@elysion: That helps a lot. Thank you!
@CakeyP: HOLY CRAP. Trashy diva looks incredible. I think I will end up buying a back up from there. Those links are so helpful. I appreciate it so much

@DarthBetty: Good to hear the update; please update again when you get the dress. i just went ahead and bought another dress from her, so I will let you know how it goes!

@DarthBetty: Keeping my fingers crossed for you that all turns out well and that the dress will be amazing. I think purchasing a back up dress just in case sounds like a great idea and would help to alleviate your fears.

@LLemonDifficult: Oh good! She’s been really responsive so far, and is saying the dress will ship out today or monday.
@Miss Circe: Will do! I can always plan my rehearsal dress and use that just in case.
