shannybells :  You don’t need to do anything. It’s WB itself that should respond to the questions on how they will handle this.

I thought this story going viral was creepy already and now seeing WB trying to capitalize on it is disturbing. OP do you already know exactly how the story originially got picked up by the news? Was it the site itself trying to get publicity?

jz0909 :  I would say WB sent it to the DM online or another bee did. There is a tips section to send stories too then it got picked up everywhere.

Hi All,

I just wanted to take the time to answer your questions.

First of all, I will unstick the post – I didn’t realize it would be such a problem.

We did not submit the thread to any news outlet.

My only intention for pinning the post was to make it so new users visiting the site would be able to easily find it, enjoy their time on WB and hopefully stick around.

I didn’t respond to a few questions unrelated to the topic as I didn’t want to de-rail the thread.  I didn’t delete unrelated questions because I don’t want you to feel that I’m trying to ignore or silence you.

I apologize for any confusion and I’ll take this as a learning experience.

If you ever want to reach out to me, you can PM me.

Thanks!

Tyson

shannybells :  You’ve done nothing wrong and I’m sure none of us meant to imply anything was wrong with your post. I’m mostly just interested in the procedure for this type of situation as it’s never happened before.

I am also interested in how it was picked up.

ETA: Thanks Tyson.

Having new users is a perfectly understandable and legitimate goal. However, maintaining “old” users is just as important. Maybe the time stamp issue is “unrelated to the topic”, but it has everything to do with showing your regard to the “old” users.

Wow — that is REALLY worrying that they posted this as a news story wihtout permission?!?!

I don’t have any photos of my face on this site, and I use my dogs name as my screen name. But I would be very concerned if one of my posts was used without my permission. Can WB make an official post regarding this type of privacy concern?

To the OP: I had a prof in grad school named Dr. Micahel Micahl. Everyone called him Michael Michael (never jsut one, always both names) but he was very kind and very resepcted and not really teased. but he was in his 60s – who teases a man in his 60s?

I did not take my husbands name becasue my first name with his last name sounds genuinely terrible. He had no issue with me keeping my maiden name. I too wanted the same name as my kids, but so many people in my area keep their maiden name, it is normal for kids and moms to have seperate names. I opted for his name as the family name, and I’m just the odd man out.

I do know a handful of couples who are combining their names and I love it! If you’re Nelson and your SO is Howard you can be Nelward or Howlson. Of course it doesn’t work with all names, but if you can make it work I think it’s a fabulous way to make a family and name that’s all your own.

shannybells :  My name has been Shannon Shannon my whole life. In middle school my teacher called me Shannon Squared and I’ve gone by that ever since (I’ll be 34). I think you’re over thinking it a tad. You’re putting too much pressure on yourself. You’re getting married because you’re in love. Have fun! Life’s too short! Congratulations and good luck!

Forgive me, but I LOVE THIS!

To me it’s like a beautiful amazing Karmic message.

A perfect match, a synchronous symbol, an amalgam……

My first and middle names together with my husband’s surname provide a similar sort of joining, but not NEARLY AS GOOD AS YOURS.

Embrace it, and relish it. I believe it WILL. NOT fail you.
