Okay I have a problem we are getting married September 7, 2013 and our plan was Jamaica or cancun but my fiancé is stressing that it’s hurricane season and we need another location. I don’t have no more ideas on where to go. Can someone please help me please. my vision was to be on a beach!!!

@Tutti80: Hii, I’m in the exact same perdicament. Someone told me Aruba is just below the “hurricane zone” and is never affected with hurricanes or the rainy season. I was in Cancun last year 22nd September for 2 weeks and we got about 4 days of rain, but the rest was beautiful. When it rained, it definitely poured!!! I’m interested to see what other people suggest.

Aruba!!! My Destination Wedding will be in the start of the hurricane season (June 19).I didn’t want to risk any rain at all since people will be there on vacation at the same time. So we chose Aruba. I heard it’s sunny all year round and away from the hurricane belt.

Costa Rica! It’s where Fiance and I are going this August. It’s out of the hurricane zone, apparently, but it swill still be rainy season which I read means about an hour of rain each afternoon, if it rains.

We went to Kauai (Hawaii) in early September and it was perfect!
@NLbride: I went to Costa Rica during the rainy season (July-August) and had a wonderful time. It seemed to rain less near the coast than inland during my trip.

Skip Jamaica. Go to Mexico. That’s what I’m doing bc I read one too many Jamaican horror stories lol and didn’t want to be stuck at a sandals the whole time because of aggressive vendors. This fear is probably extremely silly and oh well.

I work in the travel industry. What you should do if you want the caribbean is go as south as possible to avoid the hurricane belt (which is typically north/east caribbean through the Dominican Repbulic/Cuba/Jamaica areas…)
I would say the safest Islands are Barbados, St Lucia, Arbua, Curacao, St Vincent, Grenada.
Sandals is currently building a beautiful new hotel in Grenada…that might be something nice to consider.

This is a dumb question, but how long is hurricane season? Is early October hurricane season?

@LizzyR: The official Caribbean hurricane season runs from the 1st June through to 30th November but the hurricanes are not evenly distributed across the islands during this time.
