Hi Bees, So I’m about to order the invitations (entering credit card info in 5 min!) and my mother made a weird request on the phrasing, and it’s too late to ask her WTF because it’s midnight where she lives – so I thought I would ask YOU!
The invites say: “X & Y (name of parents) invite you to join the celebration of the wedding of their daughter X and Y”….
and they want to change it to: “X & Y (name of parents) invite you to join us in celebrating the wedding of their daughter X and Y”
now this is subtle but it pisses me off because they keep saying my wedding(s – i’m having two; one on each coast) aren’t REAL because the first one I’m having a friend deputized to do the ceremony (legal in California) and the second one I’m calling a wedding blessing because i’m having my uncle do the hebrew prayers to officially bless it in the jewish tradition.
it makes me MAD that they keep downplaying the weddings and they keep telling the relatives, oh well no it’s not a real wedding, it’s just a family gathering.
Does the language they are suggesting make you think it’s not a wedding? because i will be in a white fluffy dress with someone standing up saying things, and after the first one i will be legally married and after the second one the marriage will be blessed.
should i change the phrasing to what they want?

lol. i just realized what they are suggesting isn’t grammatically correct
X & Y invite you to join US in the celebration of the wedding of THEIR daughter.
that is totally wrong. i’m sticking with the original.

Do not change it. “Invite you to join us in the celebration of their daughter”…
Either “invite you to join us in the celebration of the wedding our daughter”
“invite you to join them in the celebrating the wedding of their daughter”
Anyway, I don’t think the wording makes it sound any less like a wedding, but don’t use “us” and then “their”.

i emailed the parents and told them what you said (that the grammer is off) and i said i was keeping the original and that the website will be sending us proofs so we can keep arguing about this over the next couple of days before the proofs come in.
we already had a screaming match or two over the phrasing for the save the dates. they seriously think my wedding isn’t a real wedding. i don’t know what their problem is. 🙁
wedding planning is SO MUCH FUN! 😛

You don’t need to include your last name if it’s the same as your parents.

I would include FI’s middle name too, if he has one.
