- Wedding: June 2011
So, Darling Husband and I were married on June 4 in a private ceremony with just ourselves, the photographer, and the priest present. Our families knew about it in advance, but weren’t included.
This weekend we’re going back to the Mid-west to visit families for the first time since getting married. Also, Darling Husband & I are leaving for a year in Afghanistan in August so this is the only time they’ll see us for a while, and the first time since we took the job. Finally, it’s also my SIL’s 14th and my own 25th birthday next week.
My Mother-In-Law just sent out an email to the whole family inviting them to a party on the day we arrive to celebrate everything. That’s so nice of her, but I want to make a big deal out of lil’SIL’s birthday. I know it might be unavoidable, but I really don’t want her to feel like her birthday was overshadowed by our visit.
Anyone have any suggestions on what we could get her? I definitely want to stay withing the $50-100 range, but I would really prefer to stay on the lower end of that. Anything less for something awesome is great too. The problem is that I don’t know her very well. What do you get a 14 year old for her birthday?
-Sterling silver charm bracelt and 1 nice charm (not pandora- the classic kind)
-a pretty pair of gemstone earings
-nail polish set (maybe OPI?)
-little make up kit from Sephora (She goes to Catholic school, and I have no idea what the family rules are for makeup)
What do you think? I’m sure she’d like something electronic (computer, phone, or ipod oriented) or a gift card, but it just seems so lame and unpersonal. I’d like to get her something that feels special, that she’d like, and wouldn’t really buy herself at the mall.
Thanks for the help!
